This position will ensure the completion of various cancer- related research, surveillance, and operational quality improvement initiatives. The role will develop and refine study design and data analysis plans, ensuring the completion of appropriate analyses, and present data informatively (via graphs and tables) with clear written interpretation. This position may be given ad hoc responsibilities as requested by their supervisor which can include short-term back- up for specific positions and others as deemed appropriate by their supervisor. The Epidemiologist 1 are often project leaders for small projects with moderate complexity.Qualifications:Education

  • Post graduate degree such as Masters of Science (MSc) or Masters in Public Health (MPH) in epidemiology, biostatistics, or other health statistics-oriented field or a Medical degree (MD) with post-graduate training in epidemiology or biostatistics from an accredited educational institution.
  • Other degrees and working experience in epidemiology, biostatistics, or another field with an emphasis on the use of statistics in health is considered an asset.

Experience

  • 2 years of experience managing research and surveillance projects, or quality improvement initiatives.
  • 2 years of experience in consultation, negotiation, and collaborator/stakeholder engagement.
  • 2 years of experience conducting statistical analysis.
  • 2 years of experience working with large administrative and clinical databases.
  • 2 years of experience using statistical analysis software (such as R, SAS, and/or STATA).
  • 2 years of experience teaching and mentoring junior staff.
  • 5 years of research work experience.

An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with advanced statistical programming in programs such as; R, SAS, and/or STATA.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to problem solve and think critically.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Ability to teach or mentor both technical and non-technical staff.
  • Knowledge in the application of different types of study design.
  • Capable of self-directed and team-based learning.
  • Familiarity with clinical and administrative data and its application to cancer-related research, surveillance and/or quality improvement projects.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work safely in a typical computerized office environment with frequent meetings at multiple sites throughout the organization, and able to lift and carry items.

Other

  • Must have satisfactory employment record.
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada.
  • Ability to speak French is considered an asset.
