At Corus, we Win Together, Think Beyond, Make it Happen, Learn Every Day and Show We Care.Ready to join US?Division: Global News WinnipegWork Status: Temporary contract – 12-month term.Location: Winnipeg, MB (Onsite)About the Role:Global News is offering an exciting opportunity for a full-time, temporary Digital Broadcast Journalist (12-month contract) based in Winnipeg. Reporting to the Regional News Director for Manitoba & Saskatchewan, the successful candidate will be responsible for writing, producing, and anchoring daily news broadcasts in a multi-market content format. This role is classified as a Group 4 position under the current collective agreement.You will contribute by:

  • Daily multiplatform anchoring and reporting of news and community events
  • Pitching, writing, and producing content with multiple deadlines for television and radio newscasts, OTT (news streaming service), and online.
  • Create original content on-air and on-line with a focus on the local editorial strategy.
  • Provide editorial leadership to the morning news team, ensuring newscasts present relevant, up to the minute and accurate information.
  • Promote teamwork and a positive work environment.
  • Conduct professional, engaging and well researched interviews with a variety of guests.
  • Identify and book guests that are relevant to the news of the day and / or station related community events.
  • Represent Global News at public functions.
  • Required to work weekdays, evenings and weekends as required.
  • Developing and maintaining news contacts for interviews and information.
  • Understanding and adhering to Global News’ Journalistic Principles and Practices
  • Performing other duties as required.

Skills and experience you bring:

  • Post-secondary education in journalism, broadcasting, or a related field.
  • Experience regularly Anchoring and Producing a Newscast.
  • Must demonstrate an ability to create a strong connection to the audience.
  • Must possess a strong journalistic skill set including exceptional writing and research skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Possess a desire to be the best, have a positive can-do attitude.
  • Ability to meet strict daily deadlines and work co-operatively with others in a teamwork setting.
  • Working knowledge of new media tools and technologies (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.), and related applications
  • Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology and workflows as well as show a willingness to learn new online skills in a multi-faceted digital news operation.
  • Ability to go live from the field with strong presentation skills and clarity.
  • You must possess a valid driver’s license and a clear driving record.
  • Passion for broadcast and online journalism and Canadian affairs and you wake up in the middle of the night with good ideas.
  • Motivated, self-starter, independent, results-oriented, and professional.
