Join us.POSITION OVERVIEW:The Globe and Mail is seeking an ambitious editor to join our foreign desk and help guide our world news coverage. The Deputy Foreign Editor will work with the Foreign Editor and reporters around the world to determine which stories to cover as well as the best ways to tell them.The ideal candidate is an excellent collaborator and communicator with strong editing skills who will offer fresh ideas on story angles and formats, be open to new ways of presenting our journalism, and advocate for the high-impact journalism that defines The Globe.The role requires some flexibility in work hours, as we cover different time zones and breaking news. As Deputy Foreign Editor, you’ll be at the centre of our mission-driven journalism and help readers make sense of history as it unfolds.RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Assign daily and breaking news coverage
  • Brainstorm ideas and angles for world news coverage
  • Edit stories in a variety of formats
  • Collaborate with reporters and editors across the newsroom

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least five years working in daily news
  • Strong news judgment
  • Strong editing skills
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role is an asset
  • Previous experience working with a Foreign bureau desk is an asset
  • Ability to work some evening and weekend hours
