Job Description: Cytogenetics TechnologistCytogeneticsNew Westminster, BCUnder supervision of the Section Head, performs the routine technical work of the Cytogenetics Laboratory.What you’ll do
- Sets up cultures of blood, marrow and amniotic fluid according to established procedures.
- Harvests cultures, prepares and stains slides for microscopic analysis, including special stains and banding procedures.
- Analyzes chromosomes under microscope and photographs representative metaphase figures.
- Prepares karyotypes from photographs for examination by Cytogeneticist.
- Makes routine entries in log books for accessioning and quality control according to written protocols.
- Assists section Head in providing bench work instruction and orientation.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
What you bringQualifications
- Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) Certified.
- Demonstrated technical competence.
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
