Job Description: Company DescriptionFerrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projects are undertaking the design, build, and finance the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel (South Civil) package.As Ontario Transit Group, we are now mobilizing our design and construction crews, with major works. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.The project will strengthen Ontario’s economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.What is the project?

  • A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River).
  • Stations:
  • One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station.
  • Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations.
  • Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown).

Job DescriptionPosition Overview:Ontario Transit Group (OTG) is seeking a proactive Construction Cost Controller with strong analytical skills to join our Cost Control Department. Reporting to the Cost Control Manager and work transversal across the Cost Control team. They will play a key role in tracking project costs, identifying deviations, and providing real-time insights into the financial aspects of the project. This position requires excellent analytical skills, cost management experience, and a solid understanding of civil construction infrastructure projects.Key Responsibilities:

  • Cost Monitoring and Analytics: Maintain and organize the detailed tracking of project, progress and costs, focusing on accurate recording of actual costs and forecasted budgets. Collaborate with design and construction teams to analyze cost and progress trends, identify deviations, and provide insights into budget impacts. Apply analytical thinking to assess financial risks and suggest corrective actions to maintain cost control.
  • Budget and Cost Reporting: Prepare, review, and manage monthly financial reports for the project. Work closely with the Cost Control Leadership to deliver detailed reports on cost center progress, identifying any variances between planned and actual expenditures. Provide real-time analysis and updates to management using data-driven insights.
  • Contract and Cost Variation Analysis: Understand and analyze contract terms related to cost and pricing based on schedule and production. Anticipate cost overruns, slippages, or any issues that may lead to contract variations or unexpected expenditures. Conduct detailed analysis to identify potential risks and implement strategies to mitigate them.
  • Cost Coding and Project Software Integration: Ability to pull reports to track costs and quantities in the finance software “Cassius” from certified progress and accruals. Use cost control project software “Pegase” to manage project financials, ensuring that all data is accurate and up to date. Assist in cost coding for various construction activities and collaborate with Cost Controllers to ensure smooth integration of financial data.
  • Productivity and Efficiency Tracking: Review productivity and the quantities of both subcontractors and self-performance crews and challenge the output, comparing actual quantities with expected performance benchmarks. Use data analytics to assess trends, identify areas of concern, and recommend actions to improve productivity.
  • Field Assessment: Visit construction sites frequently to assess progress, collect data, and verify that on-the-ground activities align with reported costs. Provide real-time feedback on cost impacts based on actual work progress.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with various teams, including design, construction, and finance departments, to understand the project’s evolving needs. Identify how design changes may impact costs and work with teams to adjust the budget and forecasts accordingly.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties related to cost control and monitoring as required by the Head of Cost Control.

QualificationsQualifications:

  • Education: Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Science, Finance, or related fields.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in cost control, finance management, or similar roles in civil construction infrastructure projects, with a strong emphasis on cost monitoring and financial analytics.
  • Contractual Knowledge: Ability to read and correctly interpret contractual clauses, particularly those relating to costs, pricing, and payments. Experience working with subcontractors to manage financial obligations and pricing adjustments.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of technical construction drawings, with the ability to interpret information relevant to costs and payments.
  • Analytical Thinking: Excellent analytical skills to identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities. Ability to use data to drive decisions and improve project financial performance.
  • Problem Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to address unexpected changes, such as price fluctuations, project delays, or cost overruns. Ability to develop strategies for cost mitigation.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills and experience with cost control software (PowerBI, Cassius, Pegase, or similar).
  • Communication and Teamwork: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multinational and multifunctional business environment.
  • Attention to Detail: Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills, capable of managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Safety Commitment: Knowledge of and commitment to construction site safety requirements and practices.
