The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site, with a strong preference for our Ottawa site office – 1800 Alta Vista Drive, and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Consultant, Leadership Development to join our dynamic Learning and Development team in our Talent Strategy department.The Learning and Development team is responsible for designing and implementing innovative and engaging leadership and employee development strategies and programs to meet current and future organizational needs.In this role, you will develop, create and execute leadership development programs and initiatives that strengthen the current capabilities of leaders at all levels, develop future capabilities and enable Canadian Blood Services to build a strong leadership pipeline. You will support our goal of building a modern employee and leadership development ecosystem of offerings in a way that promotes inclusion and equitable access to development and career advancement. You will also play a lead role in designing and executing the annual leadership summit. Additionally, you will support the integration of leadership development and adult learning principles into talent management practices and provide ad-hoc advisory and consulting support to leaders across the organization. In collaboration with other team members, you will contribute to develop a learning and development strategy, evaluating program effectiveness, and continuously evolving service offerings.Formula for success

  • Leveraging your passion for supporting the learning and development of others, you will develop and implement innovative enterprise-wide leadership development programs, aligned with Canadian Blood Services’ strategic priorities, values and leadership commitments.
  • Drawing on your demonstrated knowledge and expertise, you will leverage organizational strategy, data and capability requirements to identify learner needs and determine optimal development solutions for different audiences and purposes based on measurable development objectives.
  • Utilizing your strong communication skills and your proven ability to apply user-centric design methodology to the design of learning and development programs, you will engage with key stakeholders and collaborate with external vendors to build or evolve leadership development programs to ensure they meet current and future needs of the organization.
  • Using your adult learning and instructional design experience, you will create or curate engaging programs and materials, which guide leadership development from an experiential, social and formal learning perspective and incorporate blended approaches.
  • Harnessing your exceptional communication, organizational and time management skills, you will lead the design and execution of the annual in-person leadership summit for 130+ senior leaders at Canadian Blood Services. This entails collaborating with senior and executive leaders to identify summit goals, draft an agenda, design the flow, engage internal SME’s and external consultants as required to shape the content and create detailed materials to support facilitators and speakers.
  • In collaboration with other members of the employee and leadership development team, you will design and develop engagement and marketing strategies to promote leadership development programs and enable leaders to support their teams’ development.
  • Focusing on your passion, creativity and interpersonal skills, you will design and facilitate presentations, webinars or workshops to leaders as required.
  • Using your strategic thinking and relationship building skills, you will collaborate with other Talent Strategy team members and organizational senior leaders on the intent, approach, and design of the learning & development strategy.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Desired education and skills

  • Completion of a degree with a concentration in Leadership, Organizational Psychology, Organizational Development, Business, Education, Adult Learning, Human Resources, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years progressive experience designing and implementing leadership development programs for audiences at different levels.
  • Experience managing learning and development projects, including measurement of learning impact.
  • Instructional design experience (including design and evaluation of learning programs), including digital learning.
  • Experience working with senior and executive leaders and designing large-scale leadership team events.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills (verbal and written).
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently and calmly, remain agile and adapt programs to emerging needs and context.
  • Experience working through ambiguity and providing thought leadership.
  • Ability to influence without authority and gain commitment of sponsors.
  • Ability to produce clear, succinct and structured written materials, such as briefing notes.
  • Superior ability to build collaborative relationships and use deep listening and effective questioning to understand client needs and provide coaching and advice.
  • Strong experience in content curation.
  • Experience in user-centric design or universal design for learning (UDL).
  • Experience with learning and development technologies (e.g. Learning Management Systems, On-line assessment tools, digital learning platforms, etc.).
  • Experience working with vendors and contract resources, preferably in a training or consulting environment.
  • Intermediate to advanced ability with the MS Office suite of products.
  • CTDP or CTP certification is an asset.
  • Certificate in Adult Learning or Instructional Design is an asset.
  • Coaching certification: International Coach Federation (ICF) certification or completion of one or more ICF accredited programs in an asset.
  • Experience implementing or supporting talent assessment and succession planning programs is an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
