Job Description: Position Description:Under the supervision of the Occupational Health, Safety and Well-being Manager, the incumbent is responsible for advising and assisting the various Montreal Port Authority internal stakeholders on health and safety issues. They will assist in developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating various occupational health and safety programs, procedures and processes. They will contribute to a culture of prevention for all MPA stakeholders, including contractors.The incumbent will:
- Assist the Occupational Health, Safety and Well-being Manager and their internal clients in developing and implementing programs, procedures and processes
- Assist in establishing an OHS work environment and climate focused on prevention and in developing OHS employee training
- Establish and coordinate a health and safety training program based on identified needs, and coordinate internal and external health and safety training activities
- Conduct health and safety training sessions from time to time
- Ensure that prevention best practices and work procedures are maintained, implemented and updated
- Participate in health and safety committees
- Conduct audits and support supervisors in site inspections, investigations and analyses following an employment injury or upon receiving communications of events, ensuring follow-up
- Oversee prevention programs for contractors and subcontractors
- Manage the contractor management software (CMS)
- Conduct risk analyses and create, implement, monitor and update preventive measures
- Advise internal clients, assess compliance requirements, and recommend effective risk management measures
- Review and approve new chemicals
- Educate managers and employees about the various health and safety procedures in place (update the SharePoint site)
- Act as a contact person for governmental health and safety bodies
- Participate in continuous improvement of the processes of their position and/or department as needed
- Manage compensation and return to work files
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial relations, certificate in occupational health and safety a strong asset. Any other combination of relevant and equivalent experience and education may be considered.
- A minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years practical, applied experience in a similar position, in a unionized environment
- Sound knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and regulations, ideally in a company whose activities are under federal jurisdictions, as well as the Canadian Rail Operating Rules
- Ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve organizational objectives; comfortable interacting with all internal stakeholders (managers, employees, unions, etc.)
- Ability to work in a team environment with shifting priorities
- Works autonomously, takes initiative, and demonstrates tact and diplomacy
- Excellent planning, organizational, coaching and management skills with the ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously
- Expert knowledge of Office 365 suite
- Proficient with common OHS management software programs (CMS, LMS and RMS)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French
- Own a car
