Title of the Job: Companion care & PSW for Parkinson’s Dementia female

Location: Toronto, ON

Job Description: In search of a compassionate individual who could offer companionship care and personal support for our elderly mother, a 70-year-old retired teacher. She is suffering from Parkinson’s and dementia, in addition to managing her stoma and bag post-ileostomy surgery. She currently lives in a bungalow with our 75-year-old father, who acts as her primary caregiver; however, her increasingly challenging health conditions now require additional, professional support. Despite her frailty, she prizes her independence, though fluctuating cognitive abilities and moods can make this challenging. Weighing just 73 lbs, she requires attentive care for her safety, as well as assistance in maintaining a consistent day-to-day routine tailored to suit her varying health conditions. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining her medication schedule, emptying her stoma bag, ensuring she eats well, assisting with simple mobility exercises or neighbourhood strolls. Introducing and supervising mental stimulation activities such as word and brain games, or arts and crafts, will also be part of your duties. Assistance with bathing, laundry, ironing, and basic cleaning will be necessary, largely because our mother finds it enjoyable being able to enact these tasks herself. However, it is crucial to recognize when she may push too hard or make uninformed decisions, and be prepared to step in accordingly. This part-time position is a live-out job, requiring your commitment from morning to early afternoon on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Negotiable schedule and possibility of future extended hours. This role requires applicants to have experience with Parkinson’s and Dementia and a valid driver’s license (own car would be ideal). We are expecting between 20-30 working hours every week for this position. Although demanding, the rewards of being the Personal Support Worker for someone with Parkinson’s Dementia, like our mother, are considerable. We eagerly await your application and look forward to making our family a part of your professional experience.
