All leaders in the organization are expected to lead in a manner that embraces these values, the corporate culture and the passion for FCM’s mission.Major PurposeReporting to the Manager, Messaging and Digital, the Communications Advisor, French Content provides strategic communications advice, planning and senior writing expertise in French in support of FCM’s Policy and Public Affairs department’s advocacy and policy objectives.The Communications Advisor, French Content oversees the planning and implementation of communications plans, products and activities. The Advisor assesses FCM’s communication vehicles and recommends measures, processes and tools for quality assurance and effective dissemination of communications products.The Communications Advisor, French Content is responsible for the development of written communication products in French (including speeches, key messages, email sends, social media content, articles, etc.) to meet the specific needs of FCM’s francophone members, francophone board members (including the Réseau Francophone) and FCM’s spokespersons. The Advisor’s work maximizes the impact of the organization in the francophone landscape across Canada, including in Québec.The work at FCM includes FCM becoming an even more member-driven organization that balances the realization of its goals with a people-centered approach. The Officer, will maintain the highest level of confidentiality, professionalism and exercise good judgment including the ability to escalate to management when help is required and being able to meet deadlines as set out by their direct manager within a fast-paced corporate environment.Key ResponsibilitiesWithin a dynamic team of English and French writers, provides senior French writing and editing services for a broad range of communications and promotional products, including key messages, website and social media content, e-communications, publications, presentations and promotional brochures distributed to members nationwide.Develops and leadleads the implementation of communication strategies and workplan in support of FCM’s communications, advocacy and events goals.Oversees the development and delivery of communications products and activities (in French and in English) to advance FCM’s corporate objectives.Coordinates and oversees work assignments with external suppliers, such as translators, editors and graphic designers.Contributes to a strategic approach of our digital communications to ensure quality, accuracy, timeliness, relevance and alignment with overall communications strategies tailored towards our francophone membership.Proposes topics for the editorial calendar or FCM’s social media channels.Leads projects and works collaboratively with team members for projects that frequently must be delivered on time and on budget.Hires, supervises and coordinates a variety of external service providers (e.g., freelance writers, editors, graphic designers, translators, videographers, printers) ensuring work or services are delivered on-time, on-budget, and meet expectations.Leads special project working groups within FCM and participate in cross-functional teamwork, as required.Creates French written products designed to carry FCM’s core advocacy messages, liaising with policy and programs colleagues where appropriate, to ensure content is on message, accurate, suitable for various tailored audiences and reflective of FCM’s work. * Edits and proofreads various communications products in French (e.g., slide decks, brochures, reports, web and social media content) ensuring consistency in corporate messaging, compliance with document and design standards, and overall quality and consistency of communications products.

  • Provides strategic communications advice regarding the francophone audience.

Knowledge, Experience and SkillsA combination of professional and lived experience or a post-secondary education in communications, journalism, political writing or other relevant field.Five to six (5-6) years of professional writing experience, including editing and speech writing experience.Excellent French writing skills. Bilingualism (French/English) essential.Demonstrated experience using key messages to construct engaging narratives that further corporate and political objectives.Proficiency in Web and social media communication techniques.Understanding of the political landscape of francophone communities across the country.Strong strategic thinking.Strong project management skills and ability to work effectively under pressure, plan multiple projects simultaneously, meet tight deadlines, prioritize and deal with uncertainty in a fast-paced environment.Understanding of Canadian municipal and federal political structures and issues considered an asset.Thorough working knowledge of MS Office applications used for word processing and presentation creation (Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint).Attention to detail and an eye for quality.Autonomy and creativity required.Language Requirements
