Our team culture values collaboration, innovation, and excellence, all driven by a shared passion for student success and continuous improvement.About the RoleThe Co-op Student Advisor plays a critical role in providing guidance and support to co-op students in their career and work search. As a Co-op Student Advisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing and evaluating co-op students’ career and work search needs, providing information and advice, and coaching them through the career exploration and planning process.This role will support any and all of the SFU Co-op programs as needed, and contributes to the WIL’s goal of providing students with valuable co-op experiences that align with their career aspirations. The Co-op Student Advisor will also work collaboratively with other members of the team to design and deliver career and work search related workshops, evaluate Co-op services, and develop new initiatives and policies.This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a passion for career development and education to make a meaningful impact on the lives of co-op students and contribute to the success of various SFU Co-op programs.The Co-op Student Advisor position requires an ideal candidate with experience in career counselling, who holds any relevant degree with teaching experience, expertise in curriculum design, and experience within industry. Strong organizational skills, self-motivation, innovation, forward thinking, and exceptional communication skills are essential qualities for the candidate. The candidate should possess natural leadership skills, high self-awareness, and the ability to work effectively within a team. It is crucial for the candidate to have a high level of proficiency in technology and be knowledgeable about the economic trends in the labour market.QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related a discipline and two years related experience in co-op student career advising or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience in career development, career advising and/or employment counseling.
- Good knowledge of career development theory and work search strategies and practices.
- Demonstrated knowledge of developing and facilitating workshops and conducting presentations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills including listening and writing ability.
- Excellent organizational, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to exercise initiative while working independently and as a member of a team.
