The GRH Research and Innovation Department is uniquely positioned to lead and facilitate pivotal research in the field of rehabilitation, with support by the Glenrose Hospital Foundation. Within the R&I Department, the clinical translational research platform focuses on four key priority research areas: i) Neurorehabilitation and Recovery, ii) Assistive & Adaptive Technology, iii) Cognitive & Developmental Neuroscience and iv) Precision Rehabilitation.PositionThis position has a strong initial area of focus related to neurorehabilitation and recovery through Neuromodulation in Rehabilitation. The candidates will work under the direct supervision of the Scientific Program Lead to bring the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital to the forefront of using neuromodulation to enhance or suppress activity of the nervous system for the treatment of disease and improve people’s lives. The candidates may also support broader priority initiatives across the hospital as identified by the Scientific Program Lead and aligned with the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital R&I strategic plan and the mission of the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital and Glenrose Hospital Foundation. There also exists the opportunity for the candidates to submit funding proposals to support independent research that similarly aligns with the strategic directions of the GRH R&I Department.Duties

  • Lead protocol design, grant application preparation, budget preparation, ethics and operational approval applications and renewals.
  • Lead all aspects of clinical research including but not limited to data collection and analysis and dissemination through publications and presentations
  • Mentor research students, residency students and other members of the research team
  • Provide research opportunities for students and clinical staff and mentor research/residency students
  • Develop new areas of funded, independent research that are aligned with GRH R&I priority areas and strategic directions

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in a rehabilitation research-related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Up to 3 years of clinical research experience preferred.
  • Experience with patient interaction, dealing with patients, and responding to study-related questions.
  • Experience in data management.
  • Experience in scientific and grant writing.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and communication (written and verbal) skills, and high attention to detail, especially pertaining to efficient and accurate data entry and documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks, and timelines.
  • Ability to work efficiently and in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with others on a team.
  • Proficient in using information systems and programs including bibliographic management software (e.g., EndNote), Recap and Microsoft Office Suite software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Knowledge of UofA Policy and Procedures and Granting Agency Guidelines, People Soft Financials, and University Policy and Procedures in a significant asset.
