Job Description: Compensation Pay Range: $0.00-$0.00Job Description:Qualified candidates are invited to submit an application using the following URL:The Department of Pediatrics at CHEO, University of Ottawa is recruiting a full-time Clinical Associate physician within the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Division of Critical Care, starting as soon as possible.The ideal candidate will hold a medical degree from an approved LCME school. Experience in PICU and/or further subspecialty training or certification in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, Anesthesia or Pediatric Emergency Medicine are considered assets but not a requirement. The successful candidate will be eligible for a faculty appointment in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ottawa at an academic rank commensurate with experience. While English is the language of the health record, functionality in French is an asset.The Department of Pediatrics is affiliated with CHEO, the CHEO Research Institute and the University of Ottawa. Together, we provide outstanding patient care, leading research, and quality pediatric medical education. The Department of Pediatrics provides health care to newborns, children and youth of the Ottawa area, as well as those from Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec, Nunavut and parts of Northern Ontario (population of approximately 1.8 million). The Department of Pediatrics has 18 distinct divisions, which includes Critical Care.The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a mixed surgical/medical unit with over 600 admissions annually. The CHEO PICU is a state-of-the art 13-bed unit that cares for critically ill children in our region and provides extra-mural support through our rapid response team (RRT), external referral service and pediatric transport team. As a Clinical Associate (CA), your primary responsibility will be to provide clinical coverage for the PICU. You will also be responsible for providing outreach critical care advice and support within the Emergency Department, inpatient wards, and beyond. You will also assist in the arrangement of inter-hospital transfers, in collaboration with our pediatric transport team. You will be a key member of the multi-disciplinary team, and you will provide oversight to the team of postgraduate trainees.Clinical responsibilities include:In-house overnight coverage of the PICU, with backup support from the most responsible physicianRounding on PICU patients and implementing patient plansSeeing ER consults and rapid response team activationsAttending resuscitations and Code BluesBased on experience, performing or assisting with procedures such as intubations, central lines, chest tubes and arterial lines.Supporting transfers from outside hospitalsAttending family and multidisciplinary meetingsRenumeration: Payment is based on an hourly rate of $125-150/hour (depending on experience). You will be expected to work a minimum of 5 overnight shifts per month, but could do more shifts at the per diem rate if desired.The University of Ottawa is Canada’s largest bilingual institution of higher learning and research.
