In this role, you will collaborate with various architectural firms, addressing the unique challenges they encounter in Ontario.This position offers an excellent opportunity to engage with a diverse array of architectural firms and tackle specific issues they face. You will leverage and contribute to over 35 years of expertise in safeguarding and defending architects in the region—making this a truly distinguished opportunity!Position OverviewAs a Professional Lines Claims Specialist, you will oversee a portfolio of professional liability insurance claims for architectural clients. Acting as a champion for the profession, you will ensure that policyholders receive thorough defense while efficiently managing associated costs.You will work as part of a collaborative team, reporting to the Vice President of Claims & Legal, to:

  • Assess Coverage: Scrutinize relevant policies to determine available coverage and evaluate the validity of claims.
  • Perform Investigations: Collect and analyze documentation related to claims, including interviews, evidence, expert reports, legal pleadings, and building codes.
  • Evaluate Liability and Damages: Partner with internal and external experts to assess potential liability and damages.
  • Financial Oversight: Maintain accurate reserves based on current data while proactively managing costs and expenditures.
  • Coordinate with Specialists: Collaborate with internal and external professionals, including architects, engineers, and legal counsel, to facilitate effective claim resolution.
  • Mediation, Negotiation, and Settlement: Identify potential litigation and non-litigation strategies in line with company guidelines, overseeing the complete claims lifecycle from mediation to resolution.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain a comprehensive log of all events related to each claim.
  • Additional Duties: Undertake other responsibilities as assigned.

  • Third-party insurance adjusters

Ideal Candidate ProfileYou are a seasoned expert equipped with the empathy, insight, and determination needed to guide clients through complex claims processes. Actively involved in your field, you may hold membership in the Chartered Insurance Professional Society (CIP or FCIP). You possess:

  • Over 10 years of experience in managing professional liability insurance claims (experience with construction-related liability is advantageous)
  • An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution
  • Exceptional analytical, critical, and strategic thinking abilities
  • Strong administrative, time management, and organizational skills
  • Proactive problem-solving abilities, with a flair for devising innovative solutions
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Effective relationship management skills, fostering trust and professionalism
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
