Job Description: The CAMH Simulation Centre, embedded in Education at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), is seeking a full-time, permanent CH&E Specialist (Simulation Specialist). Reporting to the Manager, CAMH Simulation Centre, the Simulation Specialist will be responsible for adhering to simulation best practices and accreditation standards to design, deliver, and evaluate high-quality, evidence-based simulation education. The Simulation Specialist will lead the development and facilitation of simulation education programming virtually, in-centre and in-situ for interprofessional healthcare professionals, including nurses, allied health, and physicians at CAMH and external partner sites. Through needs assessments, planning, implementation, evaluation and research, you will exemplify core competencies as an educator, consultant, practice champion and leader.Informed by instructional design and adult learning principles, the Simulation Specialist will be responsible for leading trauma-informed, equitable and accessible faculty development and simulation trainings, using a variety of high fidelity (Simulated Participants, manikins, virtual reality, video observation system) and lower-fidelity (tabletop, task trainers) educational tools and modalities. The Simulation Specialist will nurture partnerships and work closely alongside clinical programs to lead education and training for system-based provincial initiatives.Responsibilities Include:

  • Advance interprofessional and trauma-informed patient care through simulation
  • Design, deliver, and evaluate high-quality, evidence-based simulation education
  • Use adult learning principles and education theories, support on-going faculty learning and capacity in simulation
  • Analyze current clinical practice gaps through needs assessments, and design simulation initiatives to address clinical gaps
  • Administrative coordination to ensure successful educational events, including book training times, spaces, equipment and engage in learner recruitment and evaluation strategies
  • Ensure all simulation initiatives are following best practices and meeting all accreditation requirements
  • Collaborate with between content experts, team members, and other stakeholders;
  • Utilizing knowledge translation strategies to integrate knowledge into clinical practice for learners and stakeholders
  • Maintain up to date expertise in the field of medical and mental health simulation, through literature reviews, supporting research
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing and dissemination activities related to scholarship related to education in mental health and addictions (including poster and paper manuscript preparation, knowledge rounds, etc.);
  • Embody the values of the CAMH Simulation Centre and supports the strategic direction, vision, and implementation of the Centre

As an accredited academic health sciences centre, the CAMH Simulation Centre also actively engages in mental health education research. Overseen by the Medical Director, the Simulation Specialist will have opportunities to collaborate on research initiatives and disseminate findings, supporting the CAMH Simulation Centre’s mission to ground-breaking innovation and research.The Simulation Specialist will foster relationships with and bring together key stakeholders across CAMH who use simulation as a modality to promote teaching, learning and enhanced client-care. Working closely with partners such as lived experience advisors, clinical subject matter experts, researchers, evaluation specialist, digital learning specialists and external vendors, the Simulation Specialist role requires authentic and collaborative approaches to partnerships, rooted in equitable and anti-oppressive practices. The successful candidate will support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements.This position is located at 1025 Queen Street West.The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in a healthcare, education or related field. The successful candidate will also have a three years’ experience in the development and delivery of clinical education and/or simulation in a healthcare setting. Proven experience working with diverse stakeholders and equitably co-producing educational initiatives with lived experience advisors or patient/family partners is also required. Demonstrated knowledge of simulation-based education, adult learning theories, instructional design models, curriculum development, and current and emerging learning technologies is required. The successful candidate will be highly organized, and possess excellent communication skills to facilitate working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment. The role will foster and create a safe and inclusive learning environment that motivates and challenges learners and a demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations. The successful candidate will be able to work independently in a self-directed manner, as well as collaboratively in a team setting is required. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to and manage changing priorities is required. Experience with high fidelity simulation technologies and research is strongly preferred.
