Job Description: Are You Ready to Join Our Dynamic Team?Reporting to the Manager of Career Development and Planning, you will collaborate with stakeholders like students, faculty, employers, Student Advisors, and Work-Integrated Learning Coordinators, you will design and implement customized career programs aligned with Seneca’s mission. As a Career Development Practitioner at Seneca Polytechnic, you will play a vital role in preparing students for successful careers. Collaborating with stakeholders like students, faculty, employers, Student Advisors, and Work-Integrated Learning Coordinators, you will design and implement customized career programs aligned with Seneca’s mission.In addition to program development, you will provide personalized support and mentorship to students utilizing career development theory. Also offer guidance on career planning, resume building, interview techniques, and job search strategies through individual advisement sessions and workshops, ultimately contributing to increased student satisfaction and success.Here’s What’s on Your HorizonCareer Coaching
- Provide personalized guidance to students and graduates, empowering them to explore diverse pathways towards employment and education.
- Deliver dynamic training and coaching sessions to develop soft and hard skills, enhance resume and cover letter crafting, cultivate networking proficiency, optimize professional online profiles, and excel in interviews.
- Identify strengths and barriers, equipping students and graduates with essential job readiness skills, and facilitate strategic job search techniques and lifelong career management proficiency.
Content Development, Market Analysis, and Research
- Design comprehensive seminars, workshops, and training sessions tailored to enhance career readiness.
- Craft compelling materials encompassing career readiness programming and ensure wide dissemination through various channels.
- Stay updated on cutting-edge technology to access and leverage up-to-date career information and resources effectively.
- Research and monitor labour market dynamics and industry-specific trends to inform targeted and responsive programming.
- Engage in ongoing research into sector employment trends to empower informed decision-making and career-ready programming initiatives.
- Analyze data to assess the effectiveness of career initiatives and identify areas for improvement.
Relationship Building, Employer Engagement, and Partnership Development
- Cultivate relationships with employers, faculty, students, and graduates to tailor programming to meet career education needs.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to address career education needs through strategic partnerships.
- Manage and nurture professional relationships with current employers while actively seeking opportunities to expand the network by forging alliances with new partners.
- Contribute to promotional efforts and represent Seneca in professional engagements.
Event Collaboration, Reporting, and Other Duties
- Provide comprehensive training and mentorship to Career Peers to ensure a high standard of service delivery.
- Collaborate in planning, organizing, and implementing Seneca Works events on campus.
- Oversee the Seneca Works Career Portal and provide guidance to maximize its utility for recruitment purposes.
- Provide regular statistical reports and evaluation of outcomes to relevant stakeholders.
- Assist with special events and other assigned tasks as needed.
Join Our TeamEducation
- A minimum of a completed three (3) year diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with preference given to those possessing a professional designation in a related field such as, career development, human resources, student affairs, or education.
- Certified Resume Strategist, Career Professionals of Canada is preferred.
- Certification in Career Assessment Tools is an asset.
- Credentials in assessments such as MBTI, STRONG Interest Inventory, and True Colors is considered a asset.
Experience
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience working directly with students in career advisement/coaching or human resources.
- Experience in instructional design, facilitation skills, career coaching, adult education, marketing/branding, and social media, is required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Canadian labour market and human relations issues relevant to recruitment and employment.
Skills
- Student case management experience, workshop facilitation, project coordination, and event management skills.
- Unique career advisement and coaching required for international students and graduates.
- Demonstrated computer skills, including MS Office applications; the ability to use a database program.
- Understanding and addressing the needs of a diverse student population, including mature students, equity-deserving groups, and internationally-trained professionals.
- Excellent understanding of social media as it pertains to Career Development.
- Excellent customer service orientation and interpersonal skills; exceptional oral and written communication skills are required.
- Demonstrated successful ability to develop and carry out a work plan; work independently, prioritize work, and coordinate tasks in order to meet results in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be flexible and adaptable in order to accommodate multiple stakeholders; able to adapt to and communicate with diverse populations.
