Reporting directly to the Director, Data Management, Analytics & Business Intelligence, the Business Analytics/ Intelligence Specialist will work closely with other team members to provide analysis, create reports, and present actionable business insights to drive growth and profit. Your daily activities will include identifying trends, analyzing loss data, and maintaining BI data assets.Responsibilities

  • Translate general business questions into analytic requirements and deliver meaningful insights and recommendations to solve business problems.
  • Perform complex data queries to transform operational data into insightful business metrics for internal customers.
  • Develop and analyze financial assumptions used in the insurance rating processes by using various insurance and mathematical concepts (e.g., regression analysis).
  • Maintain rating tables in the Point of Sale (POS) database and all other database environments, e.g., MIS, Development, and Quality Assurance. Follow audit procedures to apply rigorous testing and deploy rates implementation in collaboration with the pricing actuary team.
  • Provide rating analysis support for all system projects involving changes to Family’s proprietary rating engine, its business rules, and/or data tables; as well as supporting the programming, testing, and implementation of Family’s strategic rating.
  • Maintain BI assets and corporate performance reporting.
  • Work directly with data, from initial extraction through preliminary analysis to results validation.
  • Analytical projects will range from proactive, complex, long-term deliverables to very short-fused, reactive, quick-and-dirty insights we can provide “just-in-time” in order to impact a decision that will be made immediately.

What you bring to the role?
Experience & Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (i.e., Statistics, Actuarial, Risk Management, or Mathematics).
  • Minimum 3 years working experience in a similar role ideally within the Property & Casualty insurance or similar industry.
  • Proficiency with relational database concepts and SQL.
  • Experience with data validation and large dataset testing techniques.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (i.e. SSRS, Tableau).
  • Expertise using MS Word, and MS Excel, particularly data modeling and spreadsheet analysis skills.
  • Familiar with BI concepts, including data warehouse, OLAP, SSIS
  • Strong statistical analysis skills, including the ability to communicate somewhat complex quantitative analysis in layman’s terms, and tell succinct, impactful stories to senior management without overwhelming them with data and details.
  • Comfortable with ambiguous requests from management, and able to effectively turn them into detailed work plans and contracted deliverables that meet customers’ needs.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify the appropriate metrics to measure performance.
  • Ability to take initiative set deadlines and manage projects to a timely and successful conclusion.
  • Perform well in a busy operation and remain calm under pressure.
  • Adaptable and able to manage change in a fast-paced and fluid environment.
  • Team player who is professional, friendly, and courteous in all interactions, whether with customers or co-workers.

Actual salary for the role may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate and other factors including but not limited to, skills, education, experience, working conditions and the local labour market.
