Please direct any accommodation requests to our recruitment team.Primary functionThe Multiple Language Services (MLS) department brings together LAO’s multi-language and French Language Services programs. The role of MLS is to provide centralized expertise, oversight and support, planning, compliance and reporting for language access to LAO services and communications, so as to meet LAO’s language commitments and obligations.The Business Advisor position is responsible for supporting the Director of Multiple Language Services in the oversight of day-to-day operations of the department. The role also includes leading special projects to support the achievement of the departmental mandate. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director to ensure the effective and efficient operations of the department. The ideal candidate for this role is a resourceful self-starter who is highly organized and results-orientated.Home Location: Provincial Office – Toronto

Reporting to: Director, Multiple Language ServicesKey accountabilities
- Coordinate financial oversight activities for the department in collaboration with the Director and the Finance Department, including review of budgets and forecasting.
- Oversee management of multiple interpretation and translation procurements and contracts for the department.
- Provide advice and support to the Director in relation to financial management.
- Support the development and management of departmental initiatives and plans, performance measurement and reporting against deliverables.
- Lead special projects, including the management of deliverables, timelines, and budget and change management components.
- Develop and coordinate reporting to relevant internal and external stakeholders, ensuring approval processes and appropriate pathways are followed.
- Support the risk management process and reporting for the department.
- Develop and review departmental briefing notes on behalf of the Director.
- Promote and demonstrate a commitment to diversity, accessibility, equity and inclusion.
Required skills & experience
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant field and/or minimum 4 years combined experience and education
- Understanding of Legal Aid Ontario business and operations
- Strong sense of client focused service
- Experience developing and managing work plans
- Impeccable organizational skills
- Budgeting and financial management experience
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities concurrently
- Professional, positive and supportive team player
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information
- Aptitude in creative problem-solving
- Extensive working knowledge of in MS Office
Assets:
- The ability to communicate in languages beyond English is an asset
