Title of the Job: Branch Report and Correspondence Coordinator

Location: Edmonton, AB

Job Description: The Community Standards and Neighborhoods Branch aims to elevate the quality of life in Edmonton by enhancing public safety, preserving community norms, and fostering the resilience and capabilities of neighborhoods. The branch collaborates with Edmontonian, communities, and businesses to ensure urban areas are clean, secure, interconnected, and suitable for living.The Branch Report and Correspondence Coordinator will work in a highly technical, operationally complex, and politically sensitive/confidential environment.What will you do?

  • Support branch leadership in setting strategic direction of reports and interpreting technical information
  • Draft, edit, and revise branch Council and Committee reports
  • Develop report content by researching and consulting with experts, preparing jurisdiction scans, etc.
  • Synthesize complex material into accessible reports for various audiences
  • Provide feedback on reports and ensure alignment to support an integrated narrative
  • Meet internal report deadlines
  • Prepare sensitive supporting materials for internal use
  • Draft and edit public-facing correspondence, such as responses to Councillors, industry and other levels of government
  • Identify opportunities for Administration to bring forward reports that support or advance strategic priorities of the branch
  • Apply knowledge of Council agenda and emerging and historic corporate and Council issues, and awareness of the political climate
  • Highlight trends and opportunities for reports and identify opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Ensure quality and consistency in written branch materials

Qualifications

  • A university degree in business administration, public administration, communications or a related discipline
  • A minimum of two (2) years experience in communications, technical writing, municipal governance, public policy, community safety and enforcement, community development, or other related discipline

Assets:

  • Experience with briefings in a government environment
  • Familiarity with municipal operations and/or enforcement
  • Proficiency in POSSE software

Skills required for success:

  • Research, collate and synthesize complex information into written reports
  • Ability to translate complex concepts into plain language that is accessible (clear and easy to understand)
  • Experienced in writing and editing sensitive reports and correspondence
  • Strong relationship management skills to support and work with all levels of staff on report requests
  • Excellent time management, project management, and organizational techniques
  • Skilled at prioritizing tasks, handling multiple projects concurrently, and consistently meeting crucial deadlines
  • Political acumen to be able to respond to issues with appropriate tone and direction
  • Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing Google applications

  • Note: This position ​may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement ​with ​the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52. ​
