Job Description: The salary range for this position is CAD $45.48/Hr. – CAD $65.38/Hr.Job SummaryCome work as a Biostatistician, Substance Use and Priority Population Team. with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!Reporting to the Director, Complex Care, and collaborating jointly with the Regional Director, Public Health Surveillance Unit and Medical Director of Research and Evaluation, the Biostatistician provides statistical consultation for Substance Use and Priority Populations Services at Vancouver Coastal Health. The Biostatistician is responsible for the provision of expertise and leadership in data collection, data analysis and interpretation to support innovative research, quality improvement and evaluation of programs/services targeting priority populations, including the:

  • Regional Addiction Program
  • Toxic Drug response
  • Complex Care Housing
  • Urgent Homelessness Response
  • STOP HIV Program
  • Emerging health initiatives for priority populations

With a population focus, the Biostatistician will support tracking of impact of key initiatives for priority populations over time, and outcomes evaluation across the care continuum. The Biostatistician works collaboratively within a team of Directors, Medical Directors, Medical Health Officers, epidemiologists and other analysts within the Public Health Surveillance Unit at VCH to provide the relevant expertise required for health assessment, disease surveillance, and program evaluation and planning.As a Biostatistician, Substance Use and Priority Population Team with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Provide statistical consultation to the Substance Use and Priority Populations (SUPP) Program; participate in planning, implementation, analysis and interpretation of projects focusing on SUPP program research & evaluation priorities, and other related priority topics as required.
  • Collaborate with other members of the SUPP Program team to design and carry out analyses that address questions related to the goals of the Program, such as information on the epidemiology of health conditions and its determinants, as well as the effectiveness of various interventions.
  • Provide training on various aspects of applied biostatistics to the surveillance team and other professionals within Public Health.
  • Link administrative databases and develops complex databases and data analysis programs; manage data entry and verification, editing and applications of data quality assurance procedures. Create and manipulate datasets using statistical software.
  • Generate statistical models and mathematical simulation of data for introducing new statistical methodologies and study designs; analyze data to provide statistical reports and process validation.
  • Perform quantitative data analyses using descriptive and statistical methodologies with statistical software. These include temporal trends and geographic variations in health measures as well as demography, vital statistics, socioeconomic factors, environmental factors and behavioural risk factors.
  • Identify and provide advice about data limitations and ensures adequate data quality for analytic purposes.
  • Respond to consulting requests requiring mathematical/statistical input/procedures. Provide statistical contributions to data mining operations, and algorithm development. Prepare statistical methodology sections for protocol development. Work others to frame analyses and lead development of detailed technical project plans/proposals on statistical analyses.
  • Participate in internal and external committees promoting effective utilization of health information in the planning and delivery of initiatives as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QualificationsEducation & Experience

  • Master’s degree in statistics/biostatistics, plus two (2) years of recent related experience.
  • Knowledge of health data analysis with strong methodological skills in large database analysis.
  • Advanced proficiency in a statistical software package, including programming for: SAS, STATA or R.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software.
