Location: Edmonton, AB ( Onsite)About the Role:We have an exciting opportunity for a part-time Automated Control Room Director at Global Edmonton. Reporting to the Supervisor, Control Room Production, the successful candidate will be primarily responsible for directing weekend newscasts in an automated control room setting. The successful candidate is a team player. Someone who is comfortable operating in a fast-paced control room environment. We are seeking a positive and confident decision maker with experience working in an automated control room. The candidate should have a keen interest in news and a desire to help produce the best broadcast in the city.This is a Group F position under the current collective agreement.You will contribute by:The following is a paraphrase of the primary functions & responsibilities and does not outline all the duties and responsibilities for this position:

• Direct various newscasts, using Mosart automation. Through live and MMC workflows.
• Make crucial technical and editorial decisions under pressure.
• Build strong working relationships with producers and technicians who work on various newscasts
• Use graphic elements and visuals to enhance storytelling and production
• Be aware of local and national current events.
• Adapt to changing workflows and stay engaged with new technology and procedures
• Ability to calmly and clearly give directions to crew while under pressure.
• Operate and maintain working knowledge of production equipment.
• Troubleshoot technical problems in Control Room.
• Backfill production roles as required.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Skills and experience you will bring:

• Advanced experience directing in an automated control room.
• Knowledge of Mosart, non-linear workflows and Open Media will be considered an asset
• An effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills who finds solutions and thrives under pressure.
• Strong broadcast technical knowledge – including automation capabilities, rundowns, broadcast audio and composition.
• Have a feel for proper pacing and flow in relation to newscasts.
• Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology and workflows.
• Self-starter and a team player with a positive attitude
• Be able to work a variety of shifts that include early mornings and weekends
