About the roleThe Associate Director, Finance Branch, works directly with the Director, Finance in a hands-on management role. The role oversees and supports the day-to-day activities of the Finance Branch employees. This role will oversee financial accounting, management, analysis, reporting, forecasting, cost management, and budgeting. Additionally, this position works closely with the Finance team by supporting and overseeing projects. Further, the Associate Director plans, organizes, controls and reviews the processing and recording of all financial transactions of the Métis Nation of Ontario Secretariat, the Métis Nation of Ontario Cultural Commission and Métis Nation of Ontario Infinity Trust.What you will be doing

  • Managing the overall financial operations of The Metis Nation of Ontario, providing accurate information to the C-Suite and PCMNO, including analysis, budgeting, forecasting and preparing financial report
  • Manage the accounting operations including the review of journal entries, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and statutory reporting.
  • Establish and monitor internal controls to ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with established legal regulatory and company policies and procedures.
  • Budgeting and forecasting.
  • Prepare, analyze and present monthly, quarterly and annual operating results for each department.
  • Elevate critical financial issues to the Director, Finance and CFO.
  • Effectively oversee the performance management of the Finance Branch, ensuring appropriate coaching, skills building, and accountability as required.
  • Manage the year end external audit by coordinating the preparation of working papers and provision of materials to external auditors.
  • Monitor and improve existing control systems, developing new ones as necessary
  • Other related duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in the field of Finance, Accounting, or similar related field required. MBA preferred.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant or equivalent
  • A clear and solid understanding of the issues faced by the Métis Nation of Ontario and Métis and Indigenous People in Ontario
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and model positive change, and hold self and others accountable for achieving it
  • Demonstrated ability to balance completion of own work with that of the team
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate a team to accomplish objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to solve conflicts and to manage challenging situations
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly acquire and expand knowledge and to be flexible in a demanding and dynamic environment
  • Strong focus on balancing an environment that values consultation and collaboration, with achieving results by delegating, setting expectations, and monitoring progress of direct reports
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
  • High degree of tact, diplomacy and discretion
  • A high degree of technology literacy and proficiency in standard office equipment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a high degree of self awareness
  • Strong communication skills in English, spoken and written
  • 5-7 years of progressive experience in a financial environment
  • Minimum 5 years’ previous experience in senior financial management. Preferred in a government department or complex not for profit
  • Experience and knowledge of accounting systems, internal controls, business planning and asset management
  • Proven experience coaching, mentoring and developing employees, and building high performance teams
