Located in the Kmart Store # 7793 at Lockhart Gardens Shopping Center, St.Thomas, VIJOB SUMMARY:The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for the supervision of salesfloor associates and store processes. Ensures the store team delivers a WOW member experience, follows up to store recovery and has ownership of opening & closing responsibilities. Works with all associates and supports the Store General Manager with the implementation of corporate merchandising directives, operational processes, and ensures human resources initiatives are executed.Scope of Responsibility:
Supports the Store General Manager by managing store associates and their performance to achieve financial objectives and execute store operations.JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists the Store General Manager in creating and successfully achieving store profit plan by initiating opportunities to drive additional sales while improving margin and expense control.
  • Responsible for executing store operations, establishing daily/weekly priorities, following up to associate assigned tasks, and managing store productivity.
  • Focuses on member facing activities, core compliance and operational processes to improve customer/member experiences.
  • Provides direction and disciplines needed to ensure effective execution of corporate merchandising and sales programs, plus assists in maintaining unit and pricing integrity to maximize sales and profitability.
  • Assists associates with member programs such as protection agreements, credit card applications, IR, and Shop Your Way Rewards (SYWR). Proactively addresses associate outliers as measured by our outlier reporting.
  • Gives guidance and training to associates on how to display merchandise, apply selling skills, and improve service standards. Consistently provides a sense of urgency to complete task assignments.
  • Creates a work environment that fosters open communication, encourages feedback from the store team, and reacts to suggestions in a timely and as needed confidential manner.
  • Provides Store General Manager with fact based, real time feedback on opportunities and solutions that will support and benefit the business .
  • Cultivates a high performing team through ongoing performance management. Partners with the Store General Manager and store leadership team to identify and develop high potential internal leaders of the future.
  • Responsible for making employment decisions regarding hiring, promoting, demoting, and terminating; conducts performance appraisals and developing associates.
  • Follows MPS guidelines training all associates to take appropriate action to minimize waste by following MC&C guidelines and demonstrates good use of following all MPS standards.
  • Demonstrates members first leadership by greeting and offering assistance to members per the 10 foot rule; taking members to the merchandise and offering suggestive sales when needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work during critical retail time frames including Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, or other event-related times.

Preferred Skills:

  • Minimum of two (2) years retail experience or preferred equivalent.
