Reporting to Manager, Institutional Planning and Analysis, the incumbent is required to carry out research, analyze the results, and prepare reports in readable formats, participate in project teams, and liaise with members of the university community to identify and incorporate needs into effective business intelligence reporting systems and in transforming processes based on new system and institutional realities.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Compile, analyze and prepare briefing notes and reports in support of integrated analysis, process analysis, and implementation of institutional change.
  • Design, document and manipulate data sets to permit strategic questioning from a variety of university data sources (e.g., Student Information Systems, Unity (Human Resources & Finance), Faculty Resources Information System Data Warehouse) as well as external sources (e.g., GDEU, BCI, Statistics Canada, CAUBO, Universities Canada), in support of planning and decision making.
  • Monitor data integrity, intelligence-driven initiatives, and process transformation efforts within the university.
  • Identify, design, develop and implements reports in the context of the Business Intelligence solutions that support implementation of institutional change efforts.
  • Identify, maps, design and monitor implementation of business process transformations that maximize the effectiveness enrolment management at the university.
  • In consultation with other Institutional Planning analysts, establish quality control mechanisms to ensure that information processing is as efficient and accurate as possible, and that reporting is accurate.
  • Collaborate with Institutional Planning analysts in University-wide consultations to determine requirements for reporting in the context of the Business Intelligence solutions.
  • Design specifications for reports in the Business Intelligence solutions and prepare proposals that move forward the goals inherent in the position of Reporting Intelligence Analyst.
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of the university’s information systems, particularly the Data Warehouse and the Business Intelligence solutions, with an understanding of contents and inter-relationships.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to other analysts and train them to use the Business Intelligence solutions to ensure appropriate data quality. Participate in training sessions to empower users to make data-informed decisions.
  • Give presentations to members of the university community. Communicate effectively with academic faculty, administrators, and other stakeholders ensuring a clear understanding of BI solutions.
  • Perform other related duties as required by the Manager, Institutional Planning and Analysis.
  • Liaise with IITS and other relevant departments as needed. Collaborate with data engineers (developer, analyst, architect) to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various sources, including student information systems, faculty resources information systems and other institutional databases.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields (mathematics, statistics, social sciences, economics, and demography) or related to a field pertinent to the primary responsibilities and two to four years of related work experience in data management, data modeling, and statistical analysis (univariate and multivariate); a background in areas such as Management Information Systems or Human Performance Technology is an asset.
  • Strong SQL skills, including the ability to write complex queries and experience with data modeling.
  • Advanced proficiency in BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms. This includes the ability to create dynamic and interactive dashboards, develop data visualizations, and generate insightful reports. Proven expertise in developing and presenting business intelligence tools and dashboards are assets.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven analytical skills – able to assess needs based on interviews, discussion and research, and to transform these needs into effective reporting tools.
  • Knowledge and experience with the following: Microsoft Azure BI Services, Banner, Student Information System, Oracle databases, SPSS, M, +Dax and R or Python programming are considered assets.
  • Experience with data modeling and architecture and knowledge of advanced statistical models are assets.
  • Demonstrated potential for mapping business processes, analyzing them, and suggesting process improvements consistent with a changing institutional environment.
  • Demonstrated potential for developing strong organizational skills: Able to multitask in a high demand environment under limited supervision and meet established deadlines; ability to work well under pressure.
  • Good spoken and written English (Level 4) to write and edit reports and documents and to provide and interpret detailed information. Basic Knowledge of Spoken and written French (Level 3).
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Access, intermediate knowledge of PowerPoint, advanced knowledge of MS Excel, and intermediate knowledge of MS Word; ability to construct complex queries using Access.
  • Keen attention to detail and quality control.
  • Team player who has a strong interest in continuous improvement of the managerial analysis capacity of the university.
  • Knowledge of Concordia’s infrastructure and academic and administrative practices and regulations is an asset.
  • Experience with Concordia’s Data Warehouse and associated Student, Human Resources, and Financial information systems are considered an asset.
  • Sound administrative experience involving planning and organizing in a university environment is an asset.
  • Talent for communicating to animate, simplify and convey the narrative behind specific datapoints and information is an asset.
