The Compensation Analyst is an integral member of the Compensation & Classification (C&C) team which provides subject matter expertise, knowledge and support on compensation-related matters in partnership with the Specialists. Areas of focus include non-contract and bargaining unit compensation, research and benchmarking, compiling and synthesizing data, costings and analysis, reporting, project planning and monitoring, and job evaluation; and functions as the C&C related systems super-user.What you’ll do

  • Conducts research, benchmarking and compensation/market/industry surveys including arbitrations awards, labour law and jurisprudence; compiles data, analyzes and summarizes information; prepares reports, presentations and briefing notes; identifies assumptions, and advises on options, risks and recommendations as appropriate.
  • Prepares detailed costing and statistical analysis related to compensation administration, grievance negotiations and settlement/award payments, collective bargaining, redesign initiatives and service transfers, and in the preparation of planning, proposals and business cases in order to aid in decision making.
  • Coordinates and/or provides project management support, prepares project timelines and planning documents for review, and monitors and reports on progress. Implements approved decisions and changes including new or revised C&C policies, processes and guidelines, general wage increases and non-contract salary progression, job standardization, reclassifications, and grievance settlements by facilitating required systems changes and completing required documentation.
  • Functions as a super-user on C&C related systems, identifies and investigates data and system issues, provides systems advice and makes recommendations, and works within HR and other departments to determine the root of the issue and to troubleshoot solutions. Identifies opportunities for service improvement, provides input on changes, drafts processes and guidelines documents, and participates in business process improvement.
  • Reviews, revises, and classifies job descriptions in accordance with applicable classification systems and collective agreements and determines preliminary classification levels for Specialist review. Communicates with union representatives and HEABC on matters pertaining to job classification/evaluation and prepares related correspondence as requested. Prepares responses to grievance/classification review request in consultation with Specialist and documents accordingly.
  • Identifies and liaises closely with internal stakeholders including leaders, employees, HR colleagues and Records & Benefits, Payroll and IMITS, and external stakeholders including local and provincial union representatives, HEABC, and other health authorities. Responds to inquiries by providing information and guidance on processes, collective agreement language, HR policies and non-contract salary administration. Refers matters of a complex or contentious nature to the attention of a Specialist or Director as appropriate.
  • Determines requirements and requests new or revised queries to meet regular and ad hoc reporting needs. Monitors and reports on statistical information including grievance costings and liabilities, organizational information and team metrics. Fulfils external reporting requirements as needed. Produces a variety of documents including spreadsheets, tables, reports and templates. Drafts language and documents for the team intranet web pages, and updates as required.

What you bringQualifications

  • A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a recognized Bachelors Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related, plus a minimum of three (3) years of recent related experience in a large and complex organization including experience working in an unionized environment. Experience utilizing PeopleSoft HCM is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, critical thinking and decision-making skills. Possesses technical competency and systems thinking. Proven ability to perform research, analyze and synthesize information, produce reports and costings, and draw conclusions and make recommendations. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required; demonstrated knowledge and ability to utilize related equipment and computerized software packages such as the Microsoft Office suite. Fosters open and respectful relationships with colleagues, management and unions that contribute to an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect. Strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills. Exhibits thoroughness, accuracy, and attention to detail when calculating and summarizing data, records and other information. Working knowledge of standard HR policies and practices, bargaining unit collective agreement language related to wages and classification, and non-contract role evaluation and compensation framework. Ability to work with salary, payroll and timekeeping data. Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member. Ability to coordinate projects, prepare project timelines and planning documents, monitor and report on progress for multiple projects. Proven ability to determine and accomplish objectives, set priorities and meet deadlines. Extremely organized with excellent time-management skills. Ability to work effectively under pressure and with changing priorities.

Job Type: Regular, Full-TimeSalary Range: $67,861 – $97,550 /year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.
