Watch the video below to learn more about STARS as you begin to explore this amazing opportunity within our organization, you have to be great to work here, we can’t wait to meet you –Position: Air Medical Crew – Flight Nurse & Flight Paramedic– Winnipeg BaseIs this challenge for you?Reporting to the Clinical Operations Manager, the Flight Nurse and Flight Paramedic will work as a team, supplemented with the presence of a Transport Physician either in person or on-line, to provide highly specialized critical care, which includes rapid response assessment, intervention, and safe transport of critically ill or injured patients of all ages from the scene of an accident or during inter-facility transfer. This service is provided twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days per week. Mission response will be in a helicopter, fixed wing aircraft, or ground ambulance as needed. - The Flight Nurse & Flight Paramedic will perform within the Scope of Practice as set out by the STARS Medical Director and accepted by the Medical Community and professional regulatory bodies.
- Support the Clinical Operations Team on projects involving quality, safety, and critical care protocols.
- You live in, or are willing to relocate to Winnipeg, Manitoba, and are licenced to practice in Manitoba.
- Demonstrate patient-centric philosophy.
- Effectively interact with diverse populations and utilizing your superior interpersonal skills to facilitate therapeutic interaction with patients, families, and referral and receiving medical personnel.
- Be an effective team player with the ability to collaborate with other professionals within a multidisciplinary team to achieve excellence in patient care.
- Able to competently prepare complex patient care records, understand and communicate technical terminology and methodology to team members, recruits, trainees, and non-medical staff.
- Able to participate in groups and teams as both a peer and a leader as required, demonstrating effective leadership and mentoring qualities.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills essential for communicating within the STARS organization as well as with external partners.
- All STARS Air Medical Crew (AMC) roles are physically demanding and require overall strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular capabilities.
- Ability to perform all AMC duties in varying work environments such as inclement weather, rugged and/or remote terrain, restricted spaces, and high altitudes.
This position has been identified as safety sensitive. Employment of the preferred candidate will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment Alcohol and Drug test, physical Fitness to Work assessment and audio metric testing as well as providing proof of immunization.Education and Experience
- Current Registered Nurse or Registered Advanced Care Paramedic.
- Valid CPR certificate.
- Current certification of STARS Advanced Skills Institute (ASI) and education requirements in good standing (for internal applicants) or equivalent certifications including ACLS, ITLS and PALS.
- Instructor or coordinator status in ACLS, ITLS, and PALS is an asset.
- Graduate of the STARS Critical Care and Transport Medicine Academy is an asset.
- Basic to intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office applications supplemented by ability to utilize data base(s) as required.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of extensive experience in advanced care in a critical care environment.
- Experience in an air medical environment is an asset.
