We made air travel more affordable for Canadians and now we’re going global.Join us and love where you’re going.Overview of the role:We are seeking a AEM Software Developer to be an active member of our Digital product development team – which is responsible for building responsive, secure, and innovative solutions for WestJet.comThis role will provide technical expertise and lead the development team in creating high-quality software solutions by designing and developing high-quality components, templates, dialogues, widgets, and bundles within the Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Platform. Applies industry-standard processes, practices, and techniques. Leads the development and assists Product and business stakeholders to develop appropriate object-oriented software systems that meet WestJet’s business, technical and quality requirements.This position requires an energetic self-starter with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn, mentor, and contribute to a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with others are essential.Key deliverables include:

  • Work with business stakeholders to define and prepare functional and design specifications of new features/products on the CMS platform
  • Provide accurate estimates for developmental effort, complexity, and risk for AEM development sustainment streams and capital projects
  • Work closely with internal and external developers, as well as Product Owner and stakeholders
  • Assist technical support staff, project managers, and users as needed to support business applications by diagnosing complex production issues requiring extensive analysis and troubleshooting
  • Balance multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced Agile/Scrum environment
  • Design and develop automated unit and integration tests for front and back end code that define and validate feature/product requirements
  • Design and develop robust new AEM components or modify existing ones, including their configuration, Java code, client libraries, and templates that meet business, technical and quality requirements
  • Work with technology, product, and business partners to design and develop reusable templates, components, and services
  • Identify and document functional and technical requirements
  • Provide technical expertise in how to manage code and resolve conflicts with other development initiatives
  • Collaborate with tech leads, front end developers, backend developers, QA, business stakeholders, and Product owners to design and build a front-end experience in AEM
  • Quickly understand and be responsible for a complex codebase and the relationship between AEM front end, AEM back end, middleware, and various API
  • Work closely with Vendor partner to ensure sound practices regarding site architecture, performance and reliability, and content delivery are in place
  • Participate in an On-Call support rotation ensuring the uptime of the web properties
  • Review and approve/decline pull requests for merging code into the main branches of the WestJet git repository
  • Ability to proactively identify and resolve issues that impact an overall implementation effort.

Experience and qualifications:

  • 3+ years of development experience working in Adobe Experience Manager (Adobe AEM version 6.x+)
  • Recognized Diploma at a College/Technical School or Bachelor’s Degree (Technical/Business/Science)
  • Significant experience in building sites, templates, components, or integrations with Adobe Experience Manager
  • Experience with mentoring or training junior developers in AEM specific product knowledge integration and development AEM Specific Core Components
  • Understanding the broader Adobe Marketing Cloud product stack, web markup, including HTML5 and CSS3, client-side scripting, and JavaScript frameworks
  • Strong experience in using the following aspects of AEM: Sling, Dialog Configuration, authoring environment, CRX DE, Package Manager, User Administration Area, Assets Area, OSGi consoles
  • Strong experience in Javascript, Servlet, and JSP environment
  • Experience with DevOps, including Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, agile development, and release/configuration management. Preferably using, but not limited to, Azure Dev Ops or Adobe Cloud Manager
  • Strong experience with or similar to, the following technology related to the above: Java, HTML, Javascript, JQuery, Vue.js, CSS, XML, JSON, HTL (sightly), OSGI, Java Content Repository (JCR), Apache Maven, Adobe Dynamic Media, Linux
  • Experience analyzing business requirements, functional requirements, and system-wide technical specifications and interfaces
  • Experience in creating OSGI bundles, AEM Templates/Components, Workflow
  • 3+ years of experience in Java, J2EE, Spring, Ajax, OSGI, JCR, and SQL
  • Nice to have Adobe Certified Expert as AEM developer or AEM architect or Comparable CMS certification
  • Expertise in mobile web development and responsive web design
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Expertise in web usability (UI/UX design) and SEO
