Job SummaryMandate:
Reporting to the Director, Engagement & Knowledge Mobilization, the Impact and Capacity Development Manager is responsible for monitoring ONC’s metrics and key performance indicators. The role promotes pathways for growing ONC’s impact for early career ocean professionals, collaborating organizations, ocean knowledge-to-action networks and the Arts by creating opportunities to share knowledge, develop capacities and gain experience working with ocean science, data and technologies. The role grows and develops ONC’s Ocean ArtScience Community of Practice and provides oversight of ONC’s Artist in Residence program. The Manager leads unit activities guided by the goals outlined in ONC’s 2030 and collaborates with all other divisions of ONC. The User Engagement Officer and Artist in Residence report to this position.Objectives:

  • Identify capacity gaps and recommend improvements of program delivery to maximize ONC’s impact.
  • Oversee metrics tracking and impact reporting.
  • Develop and deliver training and mentoring programs for ocean professionals.
  • Build partnerships and foster knowledge-sharing networks to enhance ONC’s reach.
  • Manage the Impact and Capacity Development unit’s operations and resources.

Job RequirementsThis position requires a graduate degree in a related field plus a minimum of 5 years of experience in research impact, knowledge mobilization or similar roles, preferably in post-secondary or research organizations. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

  • Knowledge of instructional design.
  • Strong proficiency with various types of technology, such as hardware, software, applications, platforms, and systems.
  • Strong research, critical thinking and analytical abilities, excellent problem analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience collaborating with multiple parties to measure, report, and promote project impacts.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with diverse partners to foster productive relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently organize workload in a client-focused environment that may include high volume, frequent interruptions, multiple tasks and shifting priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership, supervisory skills and the ability to inspire a team.
  • A proactive approach towards problem-solving, strong conflict resolutions skills with a team-oriented approach.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing the principles of truth, reconciliation and respect, equity diversity and inclusion, and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous cultural acumen, particularly as it relates to an educational context.

Assets or Preferences:

  • Background in research skills, methodologies, and program evaluation.
  • Experience in fostering arts and science collaborations.
