Job Description: Your Opportunity:The purpose of the Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) Lead role is to ensure that MDR services within the North Zone (NZ) meet Alberta Health Services values of Accountability, Excellence and Safety. This role maintains a current knowledge base regarding best practice and leading edge technology in Medical Device Reprocessing; draws upon contemporary, evidence-based practice and current ORNAC and CSA standards. The Program Lead requires specialized knowledge and expertise in the area of MDR. This position acts as a subject matter expert to management in the Acute Care Program and Performance portfolio and is a decision maker, change agent, coordinator, collaborator, liaison and communicator both within NZ MDR settings and as a MDR representative at the provincial table on all committees involving MDR work. This role works independently and leads functional change and projects across North Zone. The incumbent will support local managers and ensure compliance with all MDR standard operating procedures. This position leads the NZ MDR Community of Practice and promotes communication, support, education, and oversight for all MDR sites in the North Zone.Description:Reports directly to the ED of Acute Care, NZ with close linkages to clinical operations. Has a desire to contribute to the safe and healthy outcomes of patient surgery. Provides MDR clinical expertise, support and feedback to site MDR staff and local operations. Supports the implementation and maintenance of evidence-based practice and will audit recommendations, ORNAC and CSA standards in conjunction with NZ operations. Provides expert support in the development, implementation and evaluation of provincial, zone and site based work policies, procedures, processes, program planning and service review including new processes and equipment for NZ surgical settings. Acts as a liaison between operations and provincial programs; represents NZ in provincial forums and provides clinical perspectives in the decision-making process. Works closely with Infection Prevention Control (IPC) to ensure compliance with policies and procedures, supports recommendations, and maintains quality assurance processes. Assists operations in the evaluation of professional competency skills and provides/coordinates ongoing clinical educational opportunities. Provides direct support to zone leadership and frontline staff during risk analysis, quality assurance reviews, accreditation processes, and other service evaluations. Reviews and revises policies and procedures related to MDR services. Identifies and implements strategies to respond to professional practice issues and standards. Monitors systems to identify utilization patterns, trends and future needs and is responsible for ongoing continuous best practice improvements. Acts as a clinical resource, overseer and advisor to ensure established MDR safety and IPC protocols are followed within ORs and surgical units.

Required Qualifications:Current MDR Certification from either: CSA Certification for Centralized Medical Device Reprocessing Technicians (CSA) OR International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management Certificated Registered Control Service Technicians (IAHCSMM) or equivalent. 5-10 years’ experience in MDR setting. A proven track record of understanding and depth of knowledge of current MDR Standards including CSA Standards.
Additional Required Qualifications:Excellent interpersonal skills – establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external partners. Strong computer skills. High attention to detail and accuracy. Strong problem solving and analytical skills. Understanding of the principles of Continuous Quality Improvement and health promotion through the use of safety standards for medical reprocessing. Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and/or work autonomously.
Preferred Qualifications:Proven communication, problem solving and supervisory skills as well as conflict resolution, supervisory coaching, organization and time management. Knowledge of trends in MDR including legal and ethical issues. Strong evidence of skills in data analysis, interpretation and reporting in a suitable format.
