Reporting to Manager, Community and Conditioning Programs, the incumbent is accountable for adhering to the professional standards of the Fédération des kinésiologues du Québec (FKQ) and for the coordination and delivery of research, hands-on training, and community activities within the Conditioning Floor area.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate and deliver research, community, and training activities taking place within the Conditioning Floor area.
  • Supervise, coordinate, schedule, and report on the activities of the internship students from the Kinesiology & Clinical Exercise Physiology (KCEP) program. Provide reinforcement, support, and guidance to the interns conducting fitness assessments and overseeing exercise programs for clients within the Conditioning Floor area.
  • Verify and review the information that is gathered on medical history and current conditions in order to ‘risk stratify’ clients and participants to develop customized fitness assessments and exercise training programs. Perform cardiopulmonary exercise tests (CPETs) on clients and research participants from diverse populations and record, analyze, and report the results for interpretation and/or for the development of exercise programs.
  • Ensure the valid use and operation of all equipment within the Conditioning Floor area in compliance with external regulatory requirements, University Health and Safety policies, and School SOPs.
  • Document and report on maintenance needs of equipment and inventory within the Conditioning Floor area.
  • Conduct Conditioning Floor area orientation for all users, including clients, research participants, internship students, researchers, visitors and casual staff.
  • Ensure safety of all users (clients, research participants, students, researchers, visitors, and staff) while in the Conditioning Floor area.
  • Deliver approved research protocols and community programs.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of School SOP’s for the Conditioning Floor area.
  • Perform other duties in support of the unit.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to Kinesiology, Clinical Exercise Physiology, or a related field and two to four years of experience in exercise testing, fitness appraisals, and exercise program development and delivery.
  • Certified member of the Fédération des kinésiologues du Québec (FKQ).
  • Certified, or in the process of becoming, Clinical Exercise Physiologist with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP-CEP).
  • Strong background knowledge and practical skills in clinical exercise physiology.
  • Experience in community and specialized exercise programs.
  • Experience with state-of-the-art modalities, software and equipment in a Conditioning Floor environment; including equipment used for cardiorespiratory fitness assessment (metabolic cart, ECG, blood pressure monitoring, etc.).
  • Basic knowledge of Word and Excel.
  • Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken and written English and French in order to communicate effectively with internal and external clients.
  • Strong personal initiative, leadership skills and team work capabilities.
  • Experience in matters of scheduling.
  • Strong planning, organizing, decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Aptitude to work in a service-oriented environment.
  • Previous experience in supervising internship students, an asset.
  • Experience in a University research environment, an asset.
