For more information on the work of our Ministry, please visit: .Role ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Team Lead/Senior Investigator, this position investigates allegations of fraud or abuse of the various benefit programs administered by the Ministry of Seniors, Community and Social Services, including the Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH), Income Support (IS), and Family Supports for Children with Disabilities, to ensure compliance with government policies on social assistance programs under the applicable Government Acts and Regulations, policies, the Criminal Code of Canada, the Canada Evidence Act, Provincial Offences Procedure Act and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. In addition, investigations relating to emergency benefit programs are conducted under the Emergency Management Act.As an investigator, you will conduct multifaceted, politically sensitive, high priority investigations in accordance with applicable legislations and policies and procedures. Due to the nature of the investigations, interactions with suspects, witnesses, and program clients can be challenging. At times it can be adversarial, therefore well-developed skills in communication, problem solving, and professional conduct are very important for success in the role.As a member of the provincial investigation team, this position promotes client accountability and appropriate use of public funds to meet clients benefit need/entitlements, while maintaining public confidence in the integrity of social programs administered by the Ministry.To be successful in this role, the candidate must possess the following:

  • Case management and time management skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution and decision-making experience.
  • Experience and training with structured interviews and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to respond to priorities under short timelines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications and have a good working knowledge of computers to conduct queries and complete work in an electronic record management system.

You must be eligible and able to obtain Commissioner for Oaths and Alberta Peace Officer appointments.Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a reliable vehicle as travel is required.Assets:
