Job Description: Your Opportunity:The Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) is responsible for assisting the Dentists, Registered Nurses (RN), Dental Hygienists, and other staff members in delivering safe, quality, efficient care to the patients seen in the Foothills Medical Centre Dental Clinic. The RDA promotes the professional role and evaluates own professional education and clinical practice. The RDA practices in accordance with AHS governance documents, provincial legislation (Health Professions Act), and the College of Alberta Dental Assistants (CADA) Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics, and Competency Profile for Alberta Dental Assistants. Makes decisions on treatment procedures within their scope of practice. Assesses patient health/economic situation and refers to appropriate resources or programs. Evaluates dental services/programs and makes recommendations for changes to management.Description:As a Dental Assistant, you will receive and prepare patients for treatment. You will prepare instruments and materials required, perform intra-oral procedures and chair-side assistance during dental procedures. You will maintain cleanliness of the dental area and perform routine maintenance. You will also provide oral health treatment and education to patients. You may perform billing and pre-authorization of insurance claims and participate in the development of educational resource materials. You will maintain dental charts, records and databases.

Required Qualifications:Completion of a certificate from an accredited Dental Assisting Program. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Dental Assistants (CADA). Additional Required Qualifications:Able to sit, stand and assumes awkward positions for extended periods of time. Lifts, transfers, repositions and secures clients requiring assistance. Lifts and transports supplies, displays and equipment. Extensive computer use. Work is subject to exposure to bio-hazardous materials, chemical hazards and radiation exposure. Required to wear personal protective equipment. Exposure to verbally/physically aggressive patients and/or families. Clientele includes individuals with infectious diseases, mental/physical disabilities, accident victims and residents of institutions who are not accepted at private clinics.
