Reporting to the Director Compensation, Benefits and Pension, the incumbent leads the design, revision and implementation of compensation programs and related policies to meet objectives with regards to internal equity, Pay Equity legislation and external market competitiveness. They provide internal compensation guidance, support and analysis to the organization including total compensation programs, compensation strategies, policies and market data analysis.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a team of advisors; assess resource needs, prioritize, hire, and oversee performance management; provide direction and mentor advisors on moderately complex to complex compensation programs, processes and issues.
  • Manage large scale complex administrative processes and programs from concept/issue identification to implementation; interpret complex data from multiple sources to make recommendations to HR and Management; participate in cross-functional teams to resolve complex issues.
  • Participate in and may lead cross-functional teams related to administrative processes and programs.
  • Manage all the non-academic compensation matters related to all collective bargaining agreements including but not limited to: salary administration, annual salary reviews, job analysis and evaluation, grievances’ management, pay equity etc.
  • Manage the annual survey participation process (i.e.: compensation survey sourcing, participation, audit issue resolution, billing, purchase orders and guidance provided to advisors).
  • Provide data recommendations on all compensation and salary administration for all collective bargaining mandates including academic.
  • Conduct large scale benchmarking initiatives with recommendations made to compensation, HR and Management based on analyses.
  • Produce various reports in response to enquiries and requests related to senior management and non-unionized employees; produce variable compensation reports; paid variable compensation report; stipend, On Call, etc.; Bill 95 management listing; other special compensation reports, as requested.
  • Act as Consultant to HR and all levels of Management on compensation related matters.
  • Assist with the development of manager training, communication strategies, and materials to create clarity and understanding around the Institution’s compensation philosophy and how it fits with an overall total rewards strategy
  • Act as a representative for inter-university committee on compensation related matters, attend meetings as the Concordia representative, and respond to all surveys and enquiries.
  • Liaise with managers to develop and implement local compensation strategies appropriate for their unit’s needs and consistent with the institution’s overall reward strategy.
  • Act as the key resource regarding costings for collective bargaining and other initiatives and projects.
  • Manage the design and development of complex compensation initiatives including those conducted in joint committees with representatives of various employee groups (i.e. structures, job evaluation plan, compensation plans reviews, organization incentive plan, etc.) from concept/issue identification through implementation.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline or automate processes using technology to ensure continuous improvements in program administration.
  • Lead HRIS software implementations involving compensation initiatives such as developing total compensation statements, automated job evaluation plans and/or salary surveys, etc.
  • Provide project management leadership for a variety of cross-compensation initiatives; Interface with the Director and HR functional partners/leaders including employee relations, employment, data shared services, legal.
  • Perform other duties as required by the Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s in Industrial Relations, Business Administration, Finance, or another related discipline or relevant field related to the primary responsibilities and minimum 7-10 years of experience of which 5 years are in a leadership role. Designation as a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) an asset.
  • Very good knowledge (Level 5) of written and spoken English and good knowledge (Level 4) of written and spoken French.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Strong problem solving, modeling and analytical skills essential for accurate and complex data compilation and costing
  • Experience with Pay Equity and with designing, planning and administering compensation programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to find simple solutions to complex problems
  • Solid project management experience and the ability to prioritize projects/mandates, requests and deliverables and required resources and time frame.
  • Demonstrate a good mix of initiative and leadership with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with the functionality of various HRIS systems. Familiarity with the SAP system an asset.
