Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, the incumbent manages a portfolio of communications projects and leads a team that is responsible for supporting Concordia’s graduate enrolment goals, enhancing Concordia’s research reputation and enhancing the student experience through developing, implementing and project managing communications strategies and initiatives targeting Concordia’s graduate and research communities.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build relationships, meet, advise and consult on a regular basis with clients, key decision-makers, stakeholders and subject matter experts; suggest ways to reach goals and intended target markets via communications strategies and tactics.
  • Develop and coordinate the implementation of communications plans, strategic briefs and critical paths in support of graduate research/student initiatives, projects and goals in consultation with key stakeholders.
  • Develop and coordinate the production, and supervise the creation of plans, materials and digital content, including but not limited to print, e-newsletters, videos, social media and digital content (website/AEM, Student Hub and Concordia app) in consultation with University stakeholders.
  • Oversee project timelines and production schedules. Tasks include but are not limited to writing, editing and proofreading in English and French, fact-checking, interviewing, reviewing, researching info, liaising with colleagues, and coordinating projects.
  • Oversee the creation of content/write copy in English and in French for a variety of media, platforms, materials and audiences, positioning Concordia in a positive light while ensuring all content meets brand guidelines, communications best practices and is in line with Concordia’s priorities and strategic directions.
  • Provide strategic counsel in cross-collaborative projects targeting students. Represent University Communication Services on cross-functional teams, attend planning and strategy meetings, participate in the development and execution of cross-collaborative and complex projects.
  • Hire, train, schedule, assign work, monitor, evaluate, and motivate unit personnel.
  • Develop measures for evaluating the effectiveness of communications strategies and tactics. Use existing data to inform communications strategies. Conduct competitive and comparative analysis, develop benchmarks, and identify best communications practices.
  • Perform other duties as required by the Director, Student Communications.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree with four to seven years of relevant experience, with at least two years’ experience supervising staff
  • Proven experience in managing staff and working with senior-level decision-makers
  • Very good knowledge (Level 5) of spoken and written English and good knowledge (Level 4) of written and spoken French: Able to and write fluently and persuasively on sensitive and complex topics, able to give and understand descriptions that may involve complicated details, able to support opinions
  • Very good knowledge (Advanced Level) of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Planner)
  • Intermediate experience with collaboration tools & platforms (e.g. Teams, Sharepoint, Google Drive)
  • Superior organizational and project management skills with track record for meeting tight deadlines, providing proactive responses, and performing well under pressure (calm demeanor) and juggle competing and shifting priorities; ability to prioritize and plan effectively
  • Excellent problem-solving skills; solution-oriented with a developed sense of innovation and creativity
  • Possess a deep understanding of student information needs and how communication activities can be leveraged to influence student decision making
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with large volumes output expectations
  • Proven track record of success in conceptualizing, developing and implementing sophisticated and differentiated marketing and communication strategies
  • Full understanding of social media platforms
  • Demonstrated leadership, initiative and confidence
  • Demonstrated advanced skills in writing, copywriting, editing, and proofreading
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Flexibility as well as the ability to manage ambiguity
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Advanced interpersonal skills: composure, diplomacy, patience, sensitivity political tact and good judgment
  • Experience in UX (user experience, data analytics and SEO, an asset.
  • Presentation skills, an asset.
  • Familiarity/knowledge of the Quebec and Canadian higher educational environment, graduate student culture, university research culture and higher education academic regulations policies and procedures, considered an asset.
  • Ability to work outside normal working hours when required.
