For more information, .Role Responsibilities1. This role is intended to coordinate and resolve complaints into the driver training and testing system through investigations into actual or suspected unlawful and non-compliant conduct. Investigations are completed in a timely, consistent, thorough, and unbiased manner, in compliance with appropriate legislation and policy.
- Supports the completion of investigative work, including the gathering, retaining, and processing of evidence, such as interviewing complainants, victims, witnesses, suspects, and accused persons; completing investigative and monitoring activities, such an undercover operations; writing and executing search warrants and production orders; serving summonses and subpoenas.
- Investigative work includes travelling to various locations in the province to complete interviews and conduct other investigative work.
- Research related legislation, for example, the Criminal Code (Canada), the Traffic Safety Act, the Provincial Offences Procedures Act, and the Driver Training and Driver Examination Regulation.
2. Records pertaining to complaints and investigations are effectively and appropriately managed according to legislation, policy, and procedures. Information provided to stakeholders, the court and ministry leadership in relation to disciplinary action and administrative hearing processes is professional and accurate.
- Facilitates regulatory action, relating to legislation, policy and procedures, to provide professional and accurate recommendations.
- Subject to review, prepare administrative court documents (court brief, prosecutor’s information sheet, information, summonses and subpoenas, or documents required for administrative action).
- Serves summonses on accused and subpoena on witnesses.
- Liaises with other law enforcement agencies and Crown Prosecutor.
3. The position actively champions a continuous improvement environment, through the identification of program deficiencies, and development of recommendations for improvements to the program or investigative efforts.
- Supports the development, maintenance, and enhancement of strategies, policy, systems, procedures, processes, and programs to improve the oversight of the driver training and testing system, specifically in relation to investigation efforts.
- Provides subject-matter expertise to support the development of changes to governance and systems, such as legislation, policy, procedural manuals, processes, driver training courses, improvement programs and courses, template letters, and IT systems.
- Participates in team projects, special projects and other duties as required.
4. Government is supported in achieving the mandate and goals of the department related to the driver training and testing system through training activities, peer-to-peer collaboration, and activities as required.
- Trains new and existing staff members when knowledge gaps have been identified to allow them to appropriately complete their jobs.
- Works together with peers to continuously improve approaches to conducting job duties and identifies process improvements for leadership where appropriate.
- Collaborates with other government staff members to ensure collaboration and integration of functions.
- Supports the development of training and training plans for staff.

- University degree in a related field (criminology, criminal justice, public administration, accountancy, economics) or equivalencies and a minimum of two years experience in investigations. Prosecution experience or investigation experience in a regulatory environment is an asset, as well as experience in the driver training and testing industry.
University graduation in a related field plus two years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalency on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Assets:
- Ability to be appointed as a Peace Officer under the Peace Officer Act.
- Holding a commercial license, a driver examiner license, or driving instructor license is considered an asset (new hires must be at least eligible).
- Working knowledge of all department traffic safety legislation, investigation techniques and a working knowledge of the variety of enforcement tools applicable in an administrative and regulatory environment.
- Knowledge of other related provincial and federal statutes that affect investigations in the driver training and testing system, such as the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the Criminal Code, the Traffic Safety Act, Driver Training and Driver Examination Regulation, and the Provincial Offences Procedures Act.
- Experience with surveillance activities.
- Individuals require effective listening skills and ability to provide appropriate verbal, non-verbal and written communications, adaptability to change, problem solving and judgment to assess options and implications in order to identify a solution appropriate to workload requirement. Conflict resolution, tact and organizational skills are required to attend to the sensitivity and diversity of issues addressed by this position.

- Work schedule: Monday to Friday – 8:15 am – 4:30 pm (36.25 hrs. per week)

- Traveling will consist up to 25% of the work schedule.
