Title of the Job: Quality Control Technician

Location: Calgary, AB

Job Description: OverviewThe Quality Control Technician’s goal is to ensure the final quality of concrete products, ensuring the highest customer satisfaction for the products. Areas of responsibility include quality control activities such as testing of raw materials, calibration of devices, performing pre-pour and post-pour inspections, and the control of concrete mix designs.Responsibilities:Quality control through the active testing of raw materials, work in progress and finished goodsResponsible for the testing, evaluation and preparation of the any required mix design typesRoutinely inspect plant operation and product quality as per specification requirementsRead and interpret shop drawings and engineered detailsProvide accurate and timely reportsMaintain and develop strong working relationship with plant staff, customers and/or representativesPerform precise plant and laboratory sampling and testing services on construction materials to determine suitability of materialsInterpret calculations, specifications, tolerances, standards, etc.Reject defective work and material to ensure quality of productCommunicate both orally and in writing on the findings of tests results and analysisProvide detailed daily test reports of inspection results, and keeps record organized and well maintainedPerforms additional quality control duties as assignedSafety and EnvironmentAdhere to all company safety and environmental practices and policies – training providedEnforce safety on the work site (truckers, visitors, and plant crew)Contribute toward the overall success of the safety program by following set rules procedures and practicesIdentify and report workplace hazards and make positive suggestions for their elimination or controlPerform duties in the safest manner prescribedRequired PPE must be worn at all timesMaintenanceComplete recommended routine maintenance and calibrations on the lab equipmentResponsible for updating and maintaining all equipment maintenance and calibration recordsQualifications:Civil Technology or Engineering is preferred or the equivalent combination of education and work experienceComputer Proficiency: QC Software and MS Office applications, especially MS ExcelAble to understand and work with QC lab equipmentExperience working in lab environmentPCI Level 1 and Level 2 Personnel Certifications would be an assetKnowledge of MNL 116 and MNL 117 would be an assetAbility to work evenings and weekends, which may include night shifts and overtimePre-employment medical including drug & alcohol testing and a criminal record check may be required.Competencies:Attention to detail and ability to troubleshootEffective written and oral communication skillsStrong team player with a positive attitude and a self-starterAbility to motivate and influence others, as well as following directionAble to multi-task effectively and work in fast pace environment while being flexibleHigh level of time management and prioritization skillsAs part of our dedicated focus on the health and safety of all employees, a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol testing and a criminal record check, may be requiredYOUR LAFARGE EXPERIENCE
