Why is this role important?The Program Specialist is responsible for various activities to support the development, ongoing enhancement and operations of the data and information platform that will be delivered through the Hub Program Roadmap. The incumbent will contribute to process improvement initiatives, stakeholder engagement and strategic planning.What you’ll do1. Participates in various matrix project teams focused on the development and ongoing enhancement and maintenance of the data and information products that will be delivered through the program.
2. Contributes to process improvement initiatives, identifies process gaps, provides recommendations focused on improving timeliness, flexibility and operational efficiency.
3. Works closely with internal stakeholders and CIHI technical resources to understand and convey the business goals and requirements, processes and procedures for management and reporting of CIHI’s data and information.
4. Develops and maintains knowledge of CIHI’s data holdings, master data and metadata and the processes and tools used by CIHI to manage, access, analyze and report on these data holdings.
5. Builds and maintains relationships with stakeholder groups within CIHI, to ensure coordination and synergy of teamwork in cross-functional projects.
6. Participates in the development of test strategies; writes and executes test cases, as required.
7. Contributes to the planning and execution of internal and external engagement activities such as change management and internal communications.
8. Draft and participates in the development of reports, briefing notes, presentations and other documentation.
9. Familiarize with overall planning activities for the program, with clear understanding of risks, schedule and scope to anticipates potential problems and works with project team to proactively find solutions. Escalates issues as required.
10. Represents CIHI at relevant meetings and conferences, as required.
11. Performs other related duties as required.What you’ll bring to the table

  • Undergraduate degree in digital health, health information, mathematics/statistics/biostatistics or similar field.
  • Three to five years’ of experience in healthcare-related information management, data processing or analytical environment.
  • Strong conceptual and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal communication skills; strong analytical and technical writing skills and presentation skills
  • Ability to synthesize data and information for different audiences, including strong data visualization skills.
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with CIHI data, standards and health master data and a demonstrated understanding of data management best practices, including information quality and privacy of personal health identifiable information.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Canadian health care system and of the importance of performance management and reporting.
  • Excellent planning and organizing skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and under tight deadlines.
  • Project management experience, including production of project Gantts is an asset.
  • Experience with business intelligence tools, such as MicroStrategy, Tableau, Qlik, Power BI is an asset.
  • Experience using R or Python to manipulate data and draw insights from large datasets is an asset.
  • Ability to meet light travel requirements.
  • Fluency in English is required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset.
