The Ministry also provides accommodation services and manages a large portfolio of owned and leased facilities while maintaining fiscal accountability and optimizing value for Albertans.For more information about Alberta Infrastructure, please visitRole ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Facilities Coordinator, the position repairs, installs, maintains and performs alterations of a variety of electrical equipment within several Correctional facilities and other facilities in the Calgary area. Performs other administrative and project planning tasks such as preparing labour and material estimates and interacts with contractors. The position also supports the operation and maintenance of a wide variety of electrical security systems at the Calgary Correctional complex including several buildings on site and other auxiliary equipment. The incumbent works independently on a wide variety of electrical systems in conjunction with the client department.The incumbent is responsible to ensure that all day-to-day commercial building operations are performed in an effective and efficient manner, carefully adhering to all Alberta Infrastructure and industry accepted standards for the subject location.The primary responsibilities of the Electrician include (but are not limited to):

  • Prioritizes, schedules, and organizes maintenance tasks for himself, in-house staff and contractors.
  • Carry out specialized procedures in the repair and reconditioning of electrical equipment
  • Read, interpret, and perform service and maintenance of electrical components.
  • Repair or replace faulty or non-operating components lubricate, adjust, and provide general inspection
  • Provides training and direction to other Infrastructure team members/clients and users of systems, regarding safe electrical procedures and practices

  • Journeyman electrical trade certification and building electrical maintenance experience
  • Ability to apply electrical building codes and regulations

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Coordination and planning skills involving a variety of electrical equipment of different power distribution levels in a complex facilities environment
  • Detailed knowledge of the correctional environment, including sensitivity to a high level of security
  • Working knowledge of operation and maintenance of building systems.
  • Good interpersonal communication and correspondence skills

NotesHours of work: 8 hours daily/40 hours per weekLocation: Calgary Correctional Centre, Calgary, Alberta
