Our work culture includes a dynamic mix of professionals, with a diversity of skills and expertise.As a key member of the Electrical Engineering team, you will be responsible for providing day-to-day engineering support on emerging issues for the Fort Hills Transmission and Distribution (T&D) with focus on Protection Systems. This position is engaged in the proactive and reactive support to enhance facility safety, reliability, and profitability. You will be part of a collaborative & multi-disciplined team environment to ensure Fort Hills assets run in optimal condition.Minimum Requirements:

  • 10 years of related experience with transmission and distribution protection and control systems
  • Expert level experience in ETAP – arc flash, short circuit, motor start up and load flow study modelling
  • Experience in Industrial Facility and/or Utility environment, up to 260 kV
  • Experience with GE, ABB and SEL Relay programming and interface software
  • Experience in fault analysis, report writing and interfacing in multidiscipline teams
  • Working knowledge of IEC 61850, SCADA network and hardware, industrial network monitoring systems
  • Understanding of CSA, IEEE, AESO ARS, NERC, MSA, and AUC rules, regulations, and standards
  • A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
  • Registration with APEGA as a Professional Engineer or equivalent

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the protection systems updates and modifications using Management of Change (MOC) process
  • Conduct conventional coordination studies using ETAP to analyze protection systems and prepare reports with recommended changes
  • Perform / Review System studies for regulatory submissions as required by regulators and support execution of AESO ARS maintenance program.
  • Support the operations team from an engineering and reliability perspective
  • Lead the condition assessment on plant assets, leading technical consulting/troubleshooting, outage technical support, incident investigation and providing recommendations for resolution of system alarms and trips
  • Liaise with projects to ensure appropriate system studies and coordination is delivered and safe integration is executed
  • Ensure construction, testing and commissioning of site growth and maintenance projects are compliant to applicable codes and Suncor standards
  • Support Reliability Program development and implementation for electrical systems for maintenance and regulatory requirements
  • Work with Power System Engineer to develop synergies and efficient management of scopes and deliverables
  • Liaise with low voltage business areas to support protection system coordination

Location and other Key Details:

  • You will work out of Suncor Calgary office with occasional travel to site at Fort Hills to support O&M team
  • This role is an in office, Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
  • Occasional extended shift or weekend support would be required to meet business needs during critical planned and unplanned event
