Posting Close: October 11, 2024The Woodwinds teacher will be required to work on Saturdays’ from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.Position SummaryReporting to the Manager, Music School, the Woodwinds (Flute/Saxophone) Teacher will provide music education to children and youth primarily from the Regent Park, Moss Park and South Cabbagetown community.Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide an enjoyable and educational experience of music for every student.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust teaching methods and materials when necessary.
  • Encourage and prepare students for recitals and concerts where appropriate and encourage them to make use of school resources such as instrument rentals, camps, etc.
  • Consult with parents on a regular basis.
  • Prepare students for Royal Conservatory Music (RCM) exams, performances, etc.
  • Submit completed student achievement reports in June, in a manner useful and constructive for parents and students.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a Flute/Saxophone teacher.
  • Post-secondary education with flute or saxophone as the primary instrument.
  • The ability to communicate well with people from all walks of life and from many cultural and social backgrounds.
  • The ability to teach various styles of music and knowledge of different approaches to teaching music.
  • High standards of professionalism and professional ethics.
  • Strong English language written and verbal communication skills with a strong ability to exchange knowledge.
  • Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer.
  • Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening check with a ‘Clear’ or satisfactory result that meets the operational requirements of the Agency.
  • Must have up-to-date vaccinations against COVID-19 with a vaccine that has been approved for use in Canada.
