Salary: $43.22 – $54.02 per hour

Closing Date: October 17, 2024Position SummaryThe Nurse Coordinator plays a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of life for patients with Esophageal Cancer and Complex Pleural Effusions (RACE Program ) through coordinated care, education, and advocacy. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in oncology and contribute to advancing patient care strategies for Esophageal Cancer and Complex Pleural effusion management.This position requires strong clinical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a passion for improving patient outcomes in liver health. One of the primary responsibilities will be:RACE:

  • Pre/post-procedure education for Tenckhoff patients
  • Pleuroscopy – post-procedure follow up
  • Updating and maintenance of the RACE database
  • Troubleshooting Tenckhoff catheter/stitches removal with CCAC nurse
  • Review and maintenance of monthly RACE data
  • Managing referrals
  • In-services for inpatient units (TG/PMH) for Tenckhoff catheters
  • Communicating with CCAC for any service issues (email CCAC manager for escalation)

Esophageal RAMP:

  • Pre/post esophagectomy, gastrectomy, myotomy, dilation and diet education
  • Facilitating esophageal support group
  • Updating patient education booklets
  • Seeing patients in the clinic at TG and PMH
  • Answering patient questions via email and phone
  • Ordering referrals, tests, booking CTs, renewing prescriptions under medical directives

Qualifications

  • Completion of a university, college, or other approved nursing program
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) program, Level II: Basic Rescuer certification
  • Current certificate of competency from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Physical Health Assessment Course preferred
  • Completion of the ECG interpretation course is an asset
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in the thoracic surgery
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and good judgement with the ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work as an integral member of a team
  • Excellent independent decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Patient teaching skills
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment to meet the needs of a changing population
  • Ability to utilize information technology
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job
  • B.Sc.N. required
  • Master in Nursing -preferred
