Context:The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is looking for a Systems Engineer, to lead the engineering work associated with a critical project to detect the presence of individuals in the subway tunnels. This system is essential to ensure the safety of STM people and assets. It will be integrated with several other systems, including the centralized control system, the public address system, the video surveillance system and the network infrastructures.Missions/Main Duties:

  • Gather issues (constraints, limitations, status) of the existing intrusion detection system;
  • Gather requirements and constraints for the new tunnel intrusion detection system;
  • Design, develop and integrate an intrusion detection system for metro tunnels;
  • Interface and integrate the system with other critical STM systems (centralized control, public address, video surveillance, network infrastructure, etc.);
  • Ensure system compliance with current safety and quality standards;
  • Participate in system testing, validation and deployment phases;
  • Manage project risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures.

Profile/Skills:

  • Member of the OIQ (Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec);
  • Degree in automation engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering, computer engineering or related discipline, combined to 10 years experience in a similar role;
  • Proven experience in the design and integration of complex, geographically distributed systems interconnected via communication networks;
  • In-depth knowledge of video surveillance systems and people detection technologies;
  • Experience in designing system architectures and integrating various subsystems, including data acquisition systems and hardware;
  • Mastery of systems engineering processes and project management methods.

Additional assets

  • Knowledge of emergency communication systems and public address (PA) systems;
  • Familiarity with applicable North American safety standards (e.g. NFPA 130, NFPA 72, UL-2572, UL-864).
