Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, the Health and Safety Specialist supports the daily operations and administers and participates in all health and safety related functions in the facility. This position assists in investigations to identify and resolve any issues that arise and supports the health and safety manager in these investigations.The compensation package for this position ranges from $60,000 to $75,000 on an annual basis.What We Offer:Medical, Dental, Prescription Drug, and EFAP Benefits after 30 days of employmentFULL flex benefits programCompany matching RRSPFamily cultureAdvancement opportunitiesProfit Sharing125+ years, family owned and operated company historyDuties and ResponsibilitiesResponsible for the management of all day to day health and safety related functionsDetermine and describe causes and impacts of problemsAbility to present information in a clear, logical, and concise manner either in written form or in front of an audience; ability to create and utilize audio/visual aids, graphs/charts to increase interest and understanding of information presentedDevelop, implement and monitor safety initiatives in compliance with the Workers Compensation Act and Occupational Health and Safety within the Province of BCAssist the Health and Safety Manager in monitoring employees on modified duty while working with HR and WCB for appropriate turn around on RTWChair monthly Occupational Health and Safety meetings at the BC Facility as well as participate in the monthly CND Health & Safety Council meetingsAssist the Health and Safety Manager during WSB workplace inspections and complete monthly safety inspectionsParticipates in monthly Occupational Health and Safety meetingsParticipate in all GFS safety audits and implement GFS best practicesConduct on site orientations for all new hires and ensure all new hires are pre-qualifiedEnsure the completion and tracking of contractors’ safety agreementsMust be able to conduct monthly internal inspections and auditsAssist with emergency planning and proceduresEnsure fire procedures are compliant with the provincial fire codesCollect, review and analyze all internal incidents reports and investigationsRequired Skills & QualificationsPrefer minimum 2 years previous experience in Health and Safety or combination of education, training and relevant work experienceOFA Level 2 or OFA Level 3 first-aid certificate an assetAbility to communicate in both verbal and written form in a manner that is sensitive to the receivers needs and is easy to understandSelf starter with good time management and documentation skillsMust be dependable, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team or individuallyWillingness to learn, accept change and the ability to work in a fast paced environmentProficient with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically in Microsoft Excel, and Word.
