This role directs the visual aesthetics and user experience of our website with a mobile-first approach, upholding our design system throughout our digital ecosystem. The scope of responsibilities extends beyond the website to encompass all touchpoints, including site design, email communications, and product photography. This role requires close collaboration with marketing, product management, and technology teams to ensure design efforts are cohesive and aligned with broader business objectives. The Manager, eCommerce Design plays a crucial role in continuously enhancing our site’s visual experience, driving better engagement through innovative design solutions, and systematically improving the overall user experience by leveraging analytics to inform design strategies and execution.In this role you will:

  • Lead and manage a team of web graphic designers: Oversee all aspects of website design and content, ensuring cohesive visual presentation and alignment with the overarching design system.
  • Emphasize mobile-first design strategy: Maintain alignment with the site’s design system, ensuring all elements are optimized for mobile devices and adhere to the production calendar’s schedule.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams: Ensure the timely delivery of all promotions, content updates, and new photography, meeting site guidelines and quality standards.
  • Forge productive partnerships: Work closely with IT for technical optimizations and with external vendors and agencies to ensure the effective delivery of design requirements and innovations.
  • Champion impactful site designs: Develop visually appealing and relevant content that is regularly updated to maximize user engagement and revenue potential through rigorous A/B testing.
  • Contribute to user experience (UX) optimization: Work collaboratively with the Director of eCommerce and Director of Product to support enhancements in site structure and content, contributing insights and design expertise to ensure an optimal user journey.
  • Direct digital and email channel designs: Ensure that digital advertising and email designs are integrated and consistent with the overall site experience, leveraging A/B testing to enhance visual appeal and user engagement.
  • Oversee project lifecycle: Manage all design projects from initial concept through to delivery, ensuring timely execution according to strategic plans.
  • Initiate strategic design innovations: Lead the creation of design mock-ups to foster continuous innovation and improvement across the website.
  • Collaborate across functions: Work with product, marketing, sales, and other teams to ensure a seamless and cohesive user experience across all company outputs.
  • Utilize data-driven design approaches: Apply analytics and user feedback to inform design decisions, optimize user engagement, and swiftly resolve any design-related issues.

QualificationsThe Qualifications and Experience we like to see:

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, User Experience Design, or a related field is required.
  • Professional Experience: At least 5 years of experience in e-commerce and web design, with a preference for backgrounds in retail and fashion apparel to bring industry-specific insights and practices.
  • Advanced Design Skills: Extensive knowledge and skills in graphic design, web design, UX design, and mobile-first design principles. Proficiency in creating high fidelity mockups and wireframes, with a deep understanding of typography, layout, and creative design principles.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong technical knowledge in web technologies including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Familiarity with responsive design principles and web development processes.
  • Design Software Expertise: Proficient in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), Sketch, Figma, and other relevant design tools.
  • AI Technology Familiarity: Experience with AI image generation platforms like Midjourney, enhancing creative capabilities and design processes.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to manage design projects from conception to delivery within budget and on schedule. Knowledge of project management tools and methodologies.
  • Strategic Thinking and Integration: Excellent strategic thinking abilities with experience in contributing to brand strategy and integrating design considerations across various company outputs.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Effective collaboration skills with the ability to work with diverse teams, including marketing, product, and sales departments, ensuring cohesive design strategies.
  • Vendor and Crisis Management: Experienced in managing external agencies or vendors and handling crisis situations such as website outages or customer feedback, ensuring timely and effective resolutions.
  • Data-Driven Design Decision-Making: Familiarity with data analysis tools and methodologies, using data to inform and optimize design decisions.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating effectively with business users, technical teams, and external partners.
  • Independence and Time Management: Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
