With a supportive and team-oriented culture to welcome you, come join a diverse and inclusive team that is making a difference every day!KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Reporting to the Director of Care, The Behaviour Support Outreach (BSO) will serve as an in-house expert on identifying and managing responsive behaviours. The dedicated BSO will function in a specialty role providing enhanced expertise to residents presenting with or at risk for responsive behaviours associated with complex and challenging mental health, dementia, complex mental health, substance use and/or other neurological conditions. The BSO will collaborate with the Psychogeriatric Resources Consultants, hospitals, CCAC, primary care providers, and other providers and professionals. The BSO will manage and coordinate ongoing behavioural support.The BSO is required to perform their duties in a manner consistent with the core values and employee guiding principles, ensure resident safety, and demonstrate customer service excellence.WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a temporary full-time position anticipated to end January 31, 2025 based on 75 hours biweekly includes day and evening shifts with the occasional night shift
  • This role is in a seniors congregate setting and may be subject to working in outbreak (COVID, flu, etc.) conditions
  • May work with residents who are physically or cognitively impaired
  • Interacts with families, staff, and volunteers

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Gentle Persuasive Approaches Coach certificate
  • Mental Health First Aid for Seniors course completion
  • PIECES certificate
  • Completion of the BSO Foundations course
  • Current Certification in First Aid/CPR

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • 2 years’ experience nursing in a Long-Term Care environment
  • Demonstrated experience in Universal Precautions and Occupational Health & Safety

  • Demonstrated commitment to resident-centered elder care, treating others with respect and dignity.
  • A participative approach, involving staff to contribute to decisions and engaging them in continuous learning and quality improvement
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Works cooperatively and effectively with staff, residents, visitors, and the public
  • Models a collaborative, interdisciplinary team approach to create a positive shared learning and mutually supportive work culture
  • An energetic, self-directed, results-oriented professional who thrives on challenge with the ability to achieve objectives, ensuring multiple priorities and tasks are appropriately carried out
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development with current knowledge of Long-Term Care legislation and regulations, issues and trend
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Intermediate skill with the MS Office suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, internet use and computerized documentation
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Vulnerable Sector Screening prior to entering the workplace
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
