An equal opportunity employer prizing diversity, integrity and collaboration, we are committed to growing MDA’s and Canada’s leadership in this next golden age.Role :The automation engineer is expected to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to manufacture space products used on state-of-the-art satellites.As part of a dynamic production team, the engineer is responsible for inter-program cohesion and for the assembly, integration and testing of our space products. From the design phase through assembly, testing (thermal, vibration, electrical…) and up to the reception of products at customers’ premises, (s)he ensures the good quality of the product and documentation throughout the production line within time constraints and budget.In addition to project monitoring, the engineer actively participates in the continuous improvement of the various production departments (electronics, composites, antennas, payloads, testing, etc.)Continuous improvement consists of the optimization and/or automation of tasks, the selection, evaluation and qualification of new equipment, the implementation of corrective actions, the qualification of new processes/products/subcontractors. (S)He also contributes to the implementation and monitoring of the philosophy of “Lean Manufacturing”, “design for manufacturing (DFM)” and “design for automation” (DFA).Tasks :
- Suggest and implement new technologies such as robots, vision systems, quality control and preventive maintenance tools in collaboration with engineering and production teams
- Analyze and validate existing processes, while participating in the design, installation and deployment of new solutions
- Develop satellite programs and databases to link our ERP/MES system with production (industry mentality 4.0)
- Program PCs, programmable control units, controller systems and operator interfaces to integrate new systems or optimize existing systems
- Create electrical and pneumatic plans and select the necessary technology (PC, PLC, drive, automatic control, etc.), document and implement improvement projects related to the various production equipment
- Develop and implement optimal working methods, efficient test tools and train users appropriately
- Participate in technical program reviews (TOB) to meet production design needs
- Represent the production team at MBRs
- Maintain, improve and diagnose production equipment already in place
- Write and update operating procedures and maintenance plans for automated equipment.
- Discuss with the project manager and the client to define the needs
- Communicate with other team members, internally and externally
- Production support after start-up
- Analyze the performance indicators of the production cells
- Perform all other tasks compatible with your duties
Qualifications required :
- Engineering Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to communicate and write in both English and French
- Knowledge of programming languages (Python, C#, SQL, C++, Java, VB (.NET), etc.) is an asset
