An opportunity exists in our client’s Calgary office for a highly motivated Mechanical Project Manager / Engineer at an Associate / leadership level to join a leading firm across Western Canada. This company have a well-established presence and a strong portfolio of work across a variety of sectors.THE ROLE
In this role you will be responsible for managing the mechanical engineering on a variety of buildings projects ranging in size and complexity, and be involved in business development, operations and other leadership tasks.Responsibilities include:
- Analyze client design proposals and specifications to determine cost effective solutions.
- Provide guidance to clients, technical staff and sub-consultants to ensure projects are technically sound and completed successfully.
- Business development including working with proposals and generating new business
- Coordinate with other disciplines internally as well as externally with consultants and architects.
- Ensure professional quality services in all facets of work.
- Provide quality and cost control during the design and construction process.
- Work with the project team to ensure technical accuracy of project deliverables.
- Manage project activities throughout lifecycle, including the allocation of adequate resources, documentation and other factors necessary for success.
- Prepare and review specification and concept reports.
- Maintain project schedules and project cost summaries to track work progress, budge status and manpower resource utilization.
- Identify and address the need for additional services and fees to clients in a timely fashion.
- Work with the field review team during the construction phase and ensure ASHRAE compliance and LEED where applicable.
- Keep apprised of industry and technical trends, codes, and standards
- Contribute to the Design building HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems.
- Coordinate and be responsible for mechanical engineering designs, drawings and specifications.
- Collaborate with Architects and projects teams to ensure design requirements are met and to solve design problems and technical issues
- Nurture and maintain strong client relationships in and for execution of projects,
- Team management and staff mentorship
- Conduct peer reviews of engineering calculations, drawings and specifications within the mechanical team.
WHAT’S REQUIRED
- Registered EIT or Engineer with APEGA
- 8+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering with good knowledge and hands on experience working with Canadian building codes
- Experience working with mechanical systems of commercial, institutional or multi-family buildings is essential (oil and gas or industrial buildings will not be considered)
- Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others
- Experience working with business development activities or a strong interest in doing this
- High energy and dynamic individual
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Knowledge of and experience with high performance and sustainable building practices an asset
- Excellent knowledge of national and provincial building codes and standards.
- Exposure to BIM and Revit will be an asset, so as to be able to review drawings.
- Good organization, coordination, and project management skills to maintain project schedules and budgets.
- Good verbal communication and soft skills – able to work effectively with clients, teams and consultants.
- Able to work in a fast pace environment on multiple projects simultaneously.
