Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular, full-time Manager, Funding Programs and Alliances to join our dynamic Innovation and Portfolio Management team in our Medical Affairs and Innovation division.The Medical Affairs and Innovation division provides medical and scientific leadership across a range of specialized areas both within Canadian Blood Services and in interacting with external partners and stakeholders. The Innovation and Portfolio Management group is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services through surveillance, research, development, knowledge mobilization and fresh blood portfolio management.The Knowledge Mobilization & Strategic Alliances team within Innovation and Portfolio Management is responsible for developing and managing programs that facilitate research, that support clinical practice and knowledge management. In this role you will oversee Canadian Blood Services’ research and training funding programs and will be accountable for developing strategic relationships with internal and external partners.Formula for success

  • Drawing on your experience in strategy alignment, you will be responsible for defining and assessing research and training strategies that address organizational strategic goals, align research priorities, integrate knowledge mobilization principles, and ensure financial adequacy.
  • Harnessing your excellent project management skills and expertise, you will be responsible for the planning, management, development, and execution of projects to support research and training programs strategies. These include project plan and deliverable reviews, project risk assessment and mitigation, and resolution of project-related issues.
  • Utilizing your superior interpersonal and communication skills, you will provide strong and effective leadership to direct reporting employees, including conducting performance appraisals, delegating responsibilities, and ensuring team members are effectively deployed to accomplish and support goals and objectives.
  • Leveraging your ability to understand and incorporate corporate culture and processes, you will promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement by implementing SOPs and best practice standards within all programs.
  • Using your process development skills and experience, you will develop and implement processes to facilitate appropriate financial administration of research funding, following applicable best practices.
  • Your experience working with senior management and external partners will be used in developing and maintaining dynamic and productive partner relationships with government and non-government organizations, including Health Canada, CIHR and Mitacs.
  • Utilizing your attention to detail and your experience with data management you will oversee the collection of performance metrics to generate accurate reports ensuring all agreement requirements are met.

Desired education and skills

  • Post-graduate level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably in Health Sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 8+ years of combined experience including two or more of the following: Program management and evaluation, Research administration and governance, Strategy development and implementation, Project management, financial administration.
  • 5+ years’ experience in managing human and financial resources.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Canadian research landscape operations and policies is required.
  • Strong sense of research and training funding innovation and the ability to integrate current and future funding trends to enable business strategy is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current scientific issues in the transfusion and blood stem cell transplantation medicine fields is an asset.
  • Knowledge of risk management concepts is an asset.
  • Advanced verbal and written communications skills in English.
