Title of the Job: Mechanical Designer

Location: Calgary, AB

Job Description: Are you a skilled and experienced Mechanical Designer? Aplin has an exciting opportunity for you! We are partnering with a leading company in Calgary to help expand their team. If you’re interested in a short-term 2-3 month contract, we’d love to hear from you!As a Mechanical Designer, you will be responsible for generating precise, detailed manufacturing documentation from customer-provided technical drawings, sales quotes, and specifications. Your designs will align with company standards, industry regulations, and customer expectations. You will work closely with project managers, engineering experts, the production manager, and manufacturing teams to ensure the accuracy and completeness of every design.Key Responsibilities:

• Manage design tasks according to project timelines, proactively addressing any potential delays.
• Create mechanical drawings, including flow diagrams, BOMs, general arrangements, structural, piping, and fabrication drawings, using AutoCAD under the direction of the project engineer.
• Incorporate design changes based on feedback from clients and shop personnel as instructed by the project engineer.
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to gather insights and enhance design quality.
• Assist project engineers with final inspections, ensuring As-built drawings reflect the finished product.
• Provide final documentation to complete Installation, Operation, and Maintenance (IOM) manuals.
• Continuously improve design processes to boost quality, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.
• Communicate effectively with project teams.
• Adhere to the ISO 9001:2000 quality management system and participate in quality improvement efforts.

Qualifications:

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or CAD Operator’s certificate.
• 3 to 5 years of mechanical design experience, including piping, structural, and 3D design.
• Experience in electrical design is an asset, though not required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and leadership skills.
• Knowledge of rotating equipment design is an asset.
• Ability to multitask with minimal supervision and thrive in a team environment.
