Job Description: Your Opportunity:The Trauma NP, an advanced practice nurse (APN) is required to maintain competency in 4 domains: Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research. The successful candidate must have: Completed graduation from a Canadian Nursing education program (or recognized equivalent). Completed master’s degree in nursing with a focus on Advanced Clinical Practice. Current licensure and registration with the College of Registered Nurses Alberta (CRNA) as a Nurse Practitioner. A minimum of 5 years (full time) of related experience as a registered nurse in acute care. Basic Cardiac Life Support Health Care Provider certification. Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, interpersonal and leadership skills. The ability to self-direct the adaptation and evaluation of the role.Description:As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Required Qualifications:Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program and a minimum of master’s degree. Registration with CRNA on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:Prioritizing management of health conditions; provide follow-up treatment; communicate with clients/ families about health findings, diagnoses, and prognoses; support/counsel clients in their personal responses to diseases, disorders, conditions. Monitor clinical outcomes for efficacy. Provide transition support into adult care system as required. Collaborate and/or consult with plastic surgeons, anesthesia, and specialists, communicating care plans with health care team. Accept/make referrals to, physicians/health professionals. Diagnose/treat diseases, illnesses, and conditions within the Nurse Practitioner’s scope of practice. Focusing on perioperative related issues within scope including wound issues. Diagnose and order appropriate screening diagnostic investigations; interpret reports of investigations and analyze information to monitor progress and plan treatment. Prescribe drugs within the statutory and regulatory standards, limits and conditions for Nurse Practitioners, within applicable employer policies and procedures. Apply knowledge of pharmacology and evidence-based practice in selecting, prescribing, administering, and monitoring the effects of drugs to treat diseases disorders, conditions, or injuries. The NP will prescribe, manage, and titrate medications inclusive of opioids as required as part of the perioperative care. Prescribe for and manage perioperative conditions within scope. Preferred Qualifications:Working knowledge of Connect Care and Alberta NetCare. ACLS and TNCC would be an asset. Completion or an audit of the ALTS course is considered an asset. (The successful candidate will be funded by the program to take the course if not already completed). Develop and provide initial treatment plans and modify plans accordingly.
