Job Description: OverviewWe are looking for a Corporate Counsel, Privacy Concentration who will act as dedicated legal counsel for WorkSafeBC’s Access to Information and Privacy Department, providing privacy-related legal advice to the Access to Information and Privacy Department and to others outside the Department.In this role, you will Provide legal advice on public body obligations under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (“FIPPA”).How you’ll make a difference: You’ll ensure WorkSafeBC is serving stakeholders across B.C. effectively.Where you’ll workAt WorkSafeBC, we offer a model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.In this role, you’ll work primarily from our Richmond office, with some flexibility to work from your home in B.C.What you’ll do

  • Provide legal advice on public body obligations under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (“FIPPA”)
  • Review procurement process documents and service provider contracts to develop contract conditions related to data security and public body obligations under FIPPA and Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner guidelines
  • Advise on and conduct complex privacy impact assessments and access to information requests
  • Draft information sharing agreements
  • Advise on privacy-related legal risks and on emerging privacy issues, such as AI
  • Provide privacy-related training to the Access to Information and Privacy Department

Your background and experience

  • A lawyer who is a member in good standing of the Law Society of British Columbia, with a minimum of three years of recent related experience.
  • Strong understand of privacy law and principles.
